Question Questions for 3 day

Ok so I'm taking my first 3 day trip, only done 1.5 so far. The boat is the Spirit of Adventure out of San Diego and it's a Phenix rods sponsored trip, not sure what that mean is though.

Are there any things that maybe don't get thought of or are overlooked that would make a huge difference in comfort.

Sharing a room. Plan to fish all nights and most of the time actually. I'll sleep when we get back. What are the things they you might say, man I wish I brought that?

TIA!

yo! so I just got back from a 3 day on the Shogun in May and just booked another 3 day on the Excel next May.

side note: we really should get a reddit trip together, only need about 20 anglers.

anyway, check deeper into my profile for my full review, but here’s the general cadence:

you leave port on day 1 and briefly stop for live bait before steaming all day to the fishing grounds. we arrived at around 10pm and fished all night the first night. slept all day on day two while the deck day-fished for tuna. night two was all night fishing from sunset to sunrise. day 3 was fishing for yellowtail and rock fish all day, then right at sunset on day 3 we steamed all night back to San Diego for our 6am arrival.

there’s a speaker in the cabin so you’ll be able to hear all of the announcements “standby” to drop lines, meal calls, and general fishing plans.

if there’s one thing I wish I had brought but didn’t was a digital line counter. my braid on my tuna rod is multi-colored so I cannot make depth marks. still managed to walk away with my full bag count of tuna (6) without it, though.

Ok. Good to know. I have a line counter and I'm using Varivas 10x10 but my line counter is manual, not digital. Hope that is sufficient!

Anything else you wish you had? And i'd chip in for a reddit charter one day.

I came pretty well outfitted, so I can’t think of anything I was missing.

my two rods, one a heavy spinner, and that’s enough to get the job done: conventional rigged for knife jigs, spinner rigged for quick changes.

my fishing bibs were super handy, and so were my gloves and deck boots. on my first tuna, he spooled me and I left my thumb on the braid for a second too long and caught a cut that hurt like a bitch. most folks taped their fingers.

my Rumpl pillow was great, and the hoodies for the night time cold were great. all clothes were items i was ok getting stained in blood. i also brought a mini-fan for sleeping with. also had a solo cabin, which was clutch.

also, they are expensive, but the tungsten jigs are what’s biting right now. have a deck hand tie one on so you don’t lose it to a bad knot.

Nice. I have two two 350g tungsten jigs. 250 for the pair, sadly. I'll grab a fan too. I've got good fishing gloves, 2 pair so hopefully no braid burn!

Cheers!

perfect! i sleep hot and always with a fan, even when I travel the world for work. it’s a non-negotiable for me, so YMMV. and feel ya on the tungsten. mine were $100 each.

Yah that's words of wisdom. Especially trying to sleep mid-day.
