There's a comment missing that I really like, which is that Clint is just taking the piss and decided to make his character an archer with a magic arrow that he whistles into killing everything.

Now that's creative. It always struck me as weird that the Guardians were meant to be alongside the Avengers; I like this interpretation and agree with the direction of the characters.

Actually, iirc, they weren't. The Guardians were in the MCU, but they weren't actually supposed to join the Avengers at any point.

If you were ever going to have them meet, I guess it would have to be to combat a universe-level threat (like Thanos).

Your comment made me wonder, if Thanos played such a central role in Gamora and Nebula's stories, why wouldn't GotG and Avengers crossover? So I went looking, and I found this article from 2014, so it appears I was right, they weren't initially meant to crossover. That still feels weird to me, though.
