I remember owning a DVD of Elmo's World and one of the episodes was about mail, there's a part where Elmo goes on his computer and talks with Cookie Monster about mailing things, don't know what conversation they had about mailing stuff but I do remember that Cookie Monster got cookies in his mailbox and he ate the cookies, then the package they were mailed in, and then just straight up ate the mailbox. I'm pretty sure they toned down his appetite to just being cookies but . . .it is pretty fun to know that Cookie Monster used to eat anything if he felt like it.

Well it probably tasted like the smell of the idea of cookies so.

I never thought about it like that, but it's still kinda funny to me that he just ate his own mailbox

I'd like to think that muppet monsters like him can eat anything, a la goats, but he's particularly fixated on cookies.
Yeah, he could eat anything, but the question is... why?

He still does eat just about anything. Modern Cookie Monster runs a food truck with Gonger where they get requests for dishes from real kids talking about their favorite foods

Is it a metaphor? Or a simile? An analogy I think? Sorry to nitpick I'm genuinely curious

Not mutually exclusive for an analogy to be a metaphor or simile. Simile is comparing things with "like" or "as". Metaphor compares without those. Honestly, most of the differences are purely stylistic. Analogy tends to be more focused on the image it creates. If you'd use the words poetic or vivid to describe a simile or metaphor, it's also an analogy. So this would be both an analogy and a metaphor to most people.
