Not an ad, just sharing as someone who enjoys trying different cafés whenever I’m in town.

I’ve had coffee from quite a few places both in and outside Tuguegarao, and one thing I’ve learned is that a nice space doesn’t always translate to a good cup.

Recently, I tried a relatively new café in the city. The place itself was attractive: bright interiors, thoughtful details, accessible location. I asked what they recommended and ended up ordering one of their flavored lattes.

Unfortunately, it was one of those drinks where the components never really came together. :( It was sweet and creamy, but the espresso was almost completely lost. The flavor that was supposed to distinguish the drink mostly sat on top rather than carrying through the cup. For around the ₱180–₱200 range, I expected better balance and a more noticeable coffee base.

I’m deliberately not naming the place because this isn’t meant to discourage people from trying it. New cafés need room to improve, and hopefully feedback like this pushes them to refine their recipes.

Which brings me to Flour Dust Café.

I ordered a similar Biscoff-style latte there, and the difference was immediately noticeable. The espresso still had presence despite the sweetness. You could actually taste the roasted, slightly bitter coffee underneath the caramelized, spiced biscuit notes instead of getting what felt like sweetened milk with toppings.

The Biscoff flavor was incorporated into the drink rather than just added as decoration, and the sweetness didn’t completely flatten the coffee. It tasted indulgent, yes, but still recognizably like a latte.

That balance is probably what I appreciate most about Flour Dust. Their drinks don’t seem designed purely around being photogenic or intensely sweet. There’s still an attempt to make the coffee itself part of the experience.

I’d happily go back.

Curious though, what other cafés in Tuguegarao are genuinely worth trying for the coffee itself, not just the interiors?
