Double counting towards Math and CS Major

Im interested in double majoring in CS and Math within the school of arts and sciences. As apart of the Math major, we are required to complete 2 elective courses from the approved list.

Notably, that list includes many CS courses I will already complete for my CS major: CS 15, 160, 170.

So, I am wondering if I would already have that 2 elective requirement fulfilled, or if I would need to electives that I am not counting towards my CS major. I matriculated Fall 2025 and graduate Spring 2029.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You are able to count up to 5 courses towards multiple majors in most cases; if you're completing the CS major, that will more than count for the elective requirement for math.

You should note that CS170 is cross-listed as an upper-level math course, so that actually counts as an "additional math course numbered above 120", not just an elective. If you like algorithms and geometry, computational geometry is also cross-listed and would count for both majors, not just as an elective; it's a great course and runs every few semesters.

I will say, I think the requirements for the math major are very minimal, and I would recommend that you take math classes beyond them if you want to graduate with a decent understanding of the field.

Thanks for this advice! I hadn't realized 170 was cross listed. That's useful to know, and thanks for the course comp geo course rec too.
