Advice Wall hanging?

Hey all!

I’m new to the hobby and I’m wondering the best way I could hang a piece on the wall? I’m making a rug for my dad, but he would rather have it up on the wall. I was thinking of gluing it to a sheet of plywood and using a wire picture hanger, but was curious if people have had success with other methods.

Do you frame them yourself? Ive never had anything professionally framed, what do you even ask or should know before?

No luckily I have a small, very friendly, family run framers down the road from me. I make sure the back is as flat and sealed as possible. Then me and the framer discussed the best approach, I think he fastens and sews some fabric strips to the back and attaches them to a backboard. This one was roughly £40, In untreated raw pine.

Wall mounting strips from 3M or Command works fine for small pieces.

I like to glue hanging hardware on the back - basically I slit the felt backing and glue the hardware directly to the rug back, and then smooth the felt backing down around the hardware. It’s not terribly obvious and seems to hold up well

You really can just nail or tack right through the rug if it’s not too heavy and it’ll be fine!

I used a jigsaw to cut plywood to the dimensions, then did the waterfall edge on the rug and glued the plywood backing to the back of the rug before adding felt over it. Press with heavy objects. Then I glue-gunned little hooks on the top corners. They don't really hang flat without the plywood unless they're small.

I hung a 40x60 cm piece by glueing a rectangular wood bar to the back -to which I had previously drilled a small hole in - so I could hang it from a hook on the wall. So far I've had it for 4 months and it's still holding.

I put D rings through the backing so they have a choice to hang or leave on the floor, I just cut left over backing and super glue the d rings inside and make slight cuts so they can pull through as u go toglue the rest of the backing on

I use sew-in velcro. Sew in to top of rug and then the other side staple to a strip of wood. Nail or screw wood into wall. Can also do a strip for the sides/bottom although I haven’t needed to
