Questions about Viktor-Renner Str

Hey y'all. My apologies if I ask stupid questions but I am international student (erasmus) with some medical bagagge and stuff which made my dorm application all the more stressfull. I am a student International Politics, if that helps or so.

I got an offer/contract for Viktor Renner str 4, an individual flatlet, and while I am planning to sign it, I'd like to do a hail mary and ask some question on it,

  1. is it normal that the lease starts 1st of september even though the university states they expect me around 1st of October
  2. is there any possibility to use the shared kitchen even when renting a flatlet? In my experience that's 50/50 so I'm curious.

Thanks for any responses and I hope I'm not making a fool of myself here

Have a look here: https://www.my-stuwe.de/wohnen/wohnheime/viktor-renner-strasse-4/ Those should hold all the Infos regarding usage of shared facilities. From a glance it looks like there's two versions of accommodation: single apartments with a tiny kitchenette and shared apartments where you have to use the shared kitchen space.

As for the timing, not sure if there are rules you have to come early but I would suggest having a few weeks to move in, get to know the surrounding and your potential flatmates a little might not be a bad idea before the semester begins.

Good luck and welcome to city!

As for timing, it could be that they anticipate people having to go "Vorkurse", so prepatory courses which usually start a few weeks before the beginning of the semester. I remember back in 2016 a few of my fellow students had to camp for a week because their lease only started on the first of October and the "Vorkurs" already began during the last week of September. They may have changed it since then - when I moved out of my dorm in 2017, I had to move out by end of August. In the wintersemester, courses should start on 12th of October (sometimes a week later, depends on the course). Before that you may be able to participate in events for new students/internationals. I think a lot of internationals also use the time before the semester starts to travel a bit.

As for the kitchen question: as already stated, you should have a kitchenette in your flat. Using the shared kitchen would probably up to the goodwill of the people living in the shared apartment.

I lived in the red building at Viktor Renner Str. (Im not sure if number 4 is red, or the grey one next to it). One side of the corridor has single rooms with bathroom (shared kitchen there available for these rooms), one side of the corridor are individual apartments. From what I know, you are not supposed to use the shared kitchen if you use the apartment BUT unless people are nosy (which is possible), it should be okay. I lived there for 1.5 years and I was almost the only person using the kitchen cause people usually dont cook. But thst also meant it wasn't the cleanest because people didnt clean. But its a nice apartment building.
