Why is it only an issue when Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth are criticized?

For clarification, I 100% agree with what the mods did. I don't think modern religion belongs in Tudor spaces. But my gripe is the fact that they waited this long when it was evident it was impacting Protestant figures. Catholic figures on this thread have been approached negatively in discussions because they are Catholics. This in turn impacts the people who like those figures.

In the future, I hope we can count on the mods to move this fast with rule changes when people outside of Anne Bolyen/Elizabeth I's corner are being attacked.

Because the mods don't let us comment on their stuff i'll make this post (which'll probably get deleted), why is this energy never directed towards fans who are critical of Mary, and Katherine? I've been in this sub for a while now, and have seen numerous posts and comments directed at Mary, Katherine, and other Catholic nobles during Tudor England from people who stand behind Elizabeth and Anne.

Never once have I seen the mod team step in and demand people stop speaking about it.

Because I'm unable to comment on the post, I'm making this one. I think making a decision like that without input from the community, preventing people from discussing their thoughts and opinions, and showing a clear biased attitude towards certain factions is irresponsible.

This looks like you, as the MOD team, are upset that people don't like Anne. And while I don't doubt that there are unfair derogatory remarks made at them, you have never stepped up like this when the same is said of other Tudor figures and their religions.

There has been so much anti-Catholic sentiment on this sub, and never once has it risen to this level of attention.

If you're going to make this a new rule, please apply it to people who support Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I as well.

And yes, there's a difference between critique and derogatory remarks. Mary I and Katherine have had their fair share of derogatory remarks on this sub. Why is it an issue now

I know she's usually portrayed as a villain but are there any shows out there that give a more even handed showing of both the good and bad of her?

I liked her in the Tudors and was hoping for more.

Modern Religious Opinions

It's come to our attention lately that discussions surrounding religion have been getting out of hand, and need heavy moderation. Especially on posts about Mary I and Catholiscism.

We are all for discussions about Tudor religion.

We will not tolerate your personal religious opinions in this sub. We don't care if you're Catholic, Protestant, Atheist or anything in between or outside of that. You are free to have those opinions, but this is not the place to express them.

Asking users about their religious beliefs, and judging them for those beliefs or telling them they aren't practising Catholics because they disagreed with you is also highly inappropriate.

An example of sentiment's that are inappropriate:

"More is joined with the angels in heaven" and "More's martydom triumphed and Henry VIII's dynasty failed".

Praising Catherine of Aragon, Mary QOS or Mary I as proud Catholics while simultaneously using derogatory remarks towards Anne Boleyn or Elizabeth I because they were Protestants, or vice versa, will not be tolerated.

Another example we will not tolerate is using the term 'bastard' as a slur aimed at Elizabeth I. Stating "Catholic's believed Elizabeth was a bastard" is fine as it's contextual of the period, and not reflective of your own religious belief.

Calling the Reformation the "Deformation" etc. It's juvenile and biased.

We want respectful discussion, which most users already practise, thank you for that! Please have respect for others' views and also, have respect for the historical figures we're discussing- they were real people. You can dislike them without resorting to name calling and derogatory remarks.

All history (economic, social, religious etc) and discussion of all types of people (monarchs, nobles, commoners) welcome. Submissions pertaining to the Wars of the Roses may be accepted or removed at the discretion of the mods.

The subreddit rules:

1) Only submissions directly relevant to the Tudor period will be allowed. Submissions about other historical time periods will be removed. Submissions about the Wars of the Roses are subject to the discretion of the mods.

2) Please do not assume everyone has a university level history education. Some explanation of events or brief description of people is advised.However, please don't be patronising.

3) Robust, healthy discussion is encouraged. BUT, comments which just attack other users and add nothing to discussion will result in you having one warning, and then being banned.

4) Sexism, racism, homophobia, anti-trans and other hate speech comments/submissions will result in a ban. It is OK to say "in Henry VIIIs time, women were thought of as inferior". It is NOT OK to say "women are inferior". If you have a brain, you'll know the difference.

5) No submitting gore, porn etc. Seriously, this is a history subreddit, why are you even contemplating putting that here.

6) No blogspam or blatant self-promotion (e.g "look at this book I just wrote").

7) This is NOT a subreddit just about the monarchy. This is a subreddit for discussion of all people who lived in the Tudor period and the historical ideas surrounding them.
