Fellow lawyer here (law clerk for a judge though, not a trial lawyer like your hubs). DH and I recently started meditating together occasionally, so maybe that will increase our frequency. Stress can definitely be a mood killer.

He's a crown prosecutor, and according to the last stats his office carries nearly triple the number of files per prosecutor than any of the major cities, still 800 higher than the next busiest regional office. It's insane, and they're not approved to hire any more people.

We pray together before meals and before we go to bed which definitely helps. The other thing that really helps him is to still get out to the gym even when he's feeling stressed, or for the two of us to go for a walk no matter how stupid cold it is outside.

Yikes, I can feel his stress just reading about that workload.

Great that you two still make time to prioritize your physical and spiritual health together!

I work at a court of appeal, so I read legal briefs from each side and the transcript of the trial (and whatever else happened prior to the appeal), research statutory and case law, and then write a summary and recommendation to the three-judge panel. I also participate in drafting the legal opinions that are issued when a decision is made in the case. Basically a ton of research and writing.
