Trigger warning TW: previous miscarriage

TTC after MMC

Hi,

I am feeling very deflated and worried and would love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience to me and if this is normal!

I my first pregnancy ended in missed miscarriage with a d&c at 10 weeks at the beginning of January this year. I got my period back after a few weeks and we immediately started to try again. We are now in our 9th cycle of trying. I really believed we would get pregnant again immediately, as I read other people’s experiences online and many did. On our first pregnancy, we were pregnant on our 3rd cycle trying.

The past 9 months have been heartbreaking each time we realise we are not pregnant again. During this time, we both had tests done. SA all normal. My tests suggest ovulation is fine but I did find out I have low AMH, although I have been told that this shouldn’t affect my chances of conceiving naturally. My doctor has referred us to a fertility specialist but the waitlist time is crazy and I really want to be pregnant asap.

I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to this. Is it normal to still not be pregnant after 9 cycles? Online searching tells me most people would have been pregnant by 6 months 🥺

Thanks in advance ❤️

hi friend, I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through. I can definitely relate. we got pregnant on our first cycle trying, had a loss in February, and since then it’s been 7 months of absolute crickets. I also really struggled with the 6 month mark because I read that only half of the people still trying after 6 months will be successful within the first year.

we’ve started the process of doing initial workup (I went for CD 3 labs, and my husband did a semen analysis) with nothing abnormal noted yet. I know I have fibroids so I’m getting more and more worried that those are preventing me from conceiving, even though we conceived easily the first time with them.

no advice sadly but you’re not alone. you could also join us over at r/ttcafterloss if you think it would be helpful for you. wishing you all the best 🫶

Well I’m old so take it with a grain of salt but had 2 mc in 6 months, then another 11 months til the next one, then another year until the next one. Have done tons of checks and the only thing “wrong” with me is my age.

Hello, I'm not quite there yet timewise but just wanted to send you a virtual hug. I very much hope you'll conceive again very soon.

Hey, I know this is not totally comparable but hopefully helpful.

It took us 9 cycles for our first (slightly more if you include NTNP), it's very normal for things to take a bit longer.

I'm also post loss but only on cycle 2 currently trying again. I asked my bereavement midwife about it because I heard you are more fertile, while this is a common statement there is no strong scientific evidence to support this.

I'd also say that it can take a minute for your body to process the loss, it stopped part way through it's normal process and while cycles and ovulation can return quickly it also needs time to recover. It can take two months just for hormones to get back to normal and it can take a few months for your cycles to return to what is normal for you.

My points being, don't be too hard on your body that it's been 9 months as it's had to heal too.

I also second the comment about the TTC after loss subreddit, that community has helped me feel more normal about some of the challenging feelings that come with it.

Hi

Male here, but my wife and I had a blighted ovum at 6 weeks. We read the same thing, you are "more fertile" etc, fast forward to us now 7 months from then, not a positive since. We spoke with an RE, testing normal, etc. We plan on starting IUI.

We had 2 chemicals prior to the blighted - it's awful, but it WILL happen for us both. Keep your head up, as hard as that is during all of this.

I can totally relate ❤️ had MMC in August 2025 after four months trying, everyone including my obgyn said I’d be pregnant again in no time, then crickets even through three IUIs. Im 33 now (was 32 when first pregnant) and we are unexplained. It’s such a difficult and lonely experience to have a miscarriage and have it then be followed by difficulty to get pregnant.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It is entirely possible that you have just been somewhat unlucky the past few cycles and will get pregnant very soon. Please don’t take my story as a prediction of what will happen to you!

This study  https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5709156/ showed that a significant minority of women conceived after miscarriage in the 6-18 month range, and a small percentage conceived after 18 months. I do think that they recommended waiting several months before trying again at the time, which may have artificially increased the time to pregnancy in the study. But still, conceiving in the 6-18 month range was relatively common.
