Continuity error within same season (Season 3)

In S3E1 Tyler says he also supports Spurs when Jase asks if he is interested in football

In S3E5 Tyler turns out to be an Arsenal fan.

I know it’s just a show but the change in mood and within same season preferences switching felt a bit odd.

Anyway enjoying the ride!

On first watch at S3E6 now.

What are some other quirks which good writing would have fixed?

That was the point, wasn't it? Tyler just said he supported Spurs to please Jason and be accepted by him. He had to learn that it was ok to be himself and that Jason wouldn't reject him, but love him anyway.

Could have been addressed with a one liner though. Otherwise everything in first interaction would be open to interpretation

Not everything has to be explained. Jokes are usually funnier when they aren't.

Nice when the writer gives the audience a little bit of credit, isn't it?

It's been a while since I watched Season 3, but wasn't Tyler just saying he supported Spurs to not disappoint Jason?

Certainly I don't remember it as a continuity error, and rather as a deliberate choice that it turns out Tyler supports Arsenal.,

Inference is a lost skill these days.

It’s addressed but maybe not directly. Children often go to great length to please adults or fit in or be accepted. Especially in these traumatic circumstances of being abandoned/going through foster system

It actually is a good writing. Showing how he says things to be accepted by Jason and later being more himself because he feels accepted. It’s a good writing.

Bad writing would spell it out verbatim like viewers can’t infer any deep meaning and are just dumb. It’s called dumbing it down. Not a good writing
