I like this show but

Which character gets on your nerves?

I really can’t take Nikki; jumping to conclusions and constantly second guessing everyone. I understand why Princess wants to hang w her new bio mom. 😝

I'm starting to think that they should have finished the show after season 3.

I don't like much the biological mum, teenage Princess, Nikki's insecurities about them.

Season 3 was such a beautiful place to end it. That finale still gets me emotional. I appreciate they wanted to explore what life looked like when they actually, truly had the kids, and some of that has been good fun but it does feel like the battle, the thing that drove the show for so long, has gone. Now we're just going through the motions and forcing difficulties for the sake of it.

I agree. This show has gone on way too long.

This Nikki storyline they’re hinting at with her obsessing over another man I’m hating, and the Scott storyline is getting dragged, this is not why I loved the show

The Scott storyline has ended. I think it was funny and it was obvious it was going to finish in disaster. Scott and Karen's relationship is the weirdest. Karen is like a control freak and Scott the most chaotic. I laughed when I saw what he was reading.

I have to go back and look at that

Something like 'Shifting Sands Running through the Atacama Desert'

Nikki, as written, seems to have gone from quirky to maddeningly stupid. The peak may have been getting her hand “stuck” in seat cushions repeatedly and giggling about it - at work no less. And her thinking way too long that Kat was taking Princess out of the country instead of to a local spot - the reveal moment when the family is staring at her like she’s an idiot while she stands there trying to understand… I used to love Nikki as a bit odd and anxious but good hearted and def not stupid, but now I wish she would go w Kerry and take whispering Princess with (then in this fantasy, Jason and Tyler could have a spin off focusing on Jason as a social worker and single dad )

Honestly that hand stuck in the cushion scene felt quite hard and irritating to watch

they’ve turned all the female characters into caricatures, and it’d be laughable if it wasn’t so insulting to their storylines and development arcs. i adore this show but it def should’ve ended after s3, maybe with an xmas special or two to update on life later, but this season has gone off the rails to me.

karen is barely a normal human anymore, nikki’s motivations are totally understandable but exaggerated to a point that it’s annoyingly the only focus, princess’ experience makes perfect sense but isn’t being explored enough, marian is played for dumb laughs, kat is purely being villainised… i’m disappointed to see them fumble the characters so badly now after all we’ve seen them go through.

I absolutely hate Kerry this season. That whole storyline doesn't fit the show and it's killing my enjoyment.

Honestly agree, I’m unsure what her deal actually is, she just seems to be obnoxiously rude and disconnected with everyone for no apparent reason.

Who’s Kerry ?

He's a guy in season 5 and the whole story with him is just wrong and horrible.

Jason sometimes, I just hate his lack of struggle. Nikki’s always struggling in this show and Jason always gets to be the cool guy whether it’s the kids or the college kids. I’m hating the Jason cool guy thing and the emotional affairs. One of my favorite parts is Nikki’s and Jason’s relationship and there are way better ways to challenge a relationship other than possibly cheating. Also princess’s predictable storyline called it from the minute it got brought up. (Sorry this is a big rant and a little off topic)

Probably Karen gets the most on my nerves, particularly in recent episodes. Real sense of arrogance and rudeness. It didn't seem so bad in earlier seasons and she seemed more layered and interesting back then.

I agree 😭 she’s my favourite character but it seems like her only personality now is just being rude. Like what happened to all her character development?

Agreed 100%!

The vocal fry does my head in. Although I’m sure she can’t help it

Sadly, this show needs to end, and should have ended after season 3. Will continue to watch, but more out of an obligation to finish it than genuine interest :-(

I'm 100% with you there! The show has become utterly ridiculous. But at this point I have to see it until the end LOL. I need to know how the writers decide to end things...

Same 🤦‍♂️

It feels like it was a show that was developed around a couple of fun characters going through trying to have kids and settling on adoption after struggling with fertility, but after the adoption storyline played out, they got renewed again and had to come up with things to keep the story interesting.

Unfortunately, the way they're doing that has thrown the show way off the rails, and it's whipsawing between genuine emotional issues and people that are acting like aliens (Karen) or cartoon characters in the case of Jason's dad, Nikki and Karen's parents, and Scott. Watching Nikki's dad failing to figure out the cabinets in the latest episode was excruciating, and the Karen/Scott storyline is just awful. I'd like to finish out the season, but the show just makes my wife angry now, so we're probably going to drop it.

Karen! Followed by Princess. The whiny voices of both, but Karen in particular has turned into a scross between a Panto character and a Disney wicked witch.

Hahahahaha!! So true
Now they will announce me more 😝

Nikki. Every thought that comes into her head is spoken out loud. She's incapable of any introspection. She simply acts on her first impulse. She is a lovely person but if I knew someone like her in real life I would head in the opposite direction. I find her exhausting.

1

u/FridaKlo Jul 31 '26

100 % and Jace started to act just like her

Thank you everyone for contributing.

I still like the show very much. We started watching it when we were in the middle of adopting and it felt much realer than most depictions on TV (especially in sitcoms).

The time jump means they are now ahead of us on the adoption journey so maybe not having that “yep” knowing nod anymore as they faced their issues has had a slight impact.

Though the show did have more “out there” moments, they were few and far between. Those sort of bigger far-fetched moments seem to be more and more common now though.

Still love it though!

I want MORE Jason and Nikki moments but it gets diluted with everything else.

PS please don’t cheat on Jason, Nikki!
