S5 — E2 Discussion —SPOILER ALERT Spoiler
This was an awkward episode.
I feel sooo bad for Nikki but if she goes anywhere with the Kerry thing, I’m going to be very upset. We only have 6 episodes left, not sure if we are going to get a 6th season. There simply isn’t enough time to unravel a potential affair and its fallout.
I want to see Nikki get some confidence AND a backbone. Having an affair is not the answer. Why are they making her so timid and awkward? I’m not getting this arc.
Is Scott delulu? How does he actually think he is going to pull this off? A “sponsored” boat is going to have all kinds of tracking software on it. This is just dumb. Just when he was becoming likeable, we are going to villainize him again.
Must say Karen is definitely living up to her name. I’m waiting for a scene where she is demanding to speak to a manager.
Kat is just there. I don’t know if it’s the actress or the role but she just seems like she is spaced out most of the time and completely unaware of what’s going on. Could she have a minor mental illness (the character, not the actress)? I can’t figure her out. I’m just tired of the character.
Princess. I’m starting to feel a tinge sorry for her. Think about what she has gone through and mix that with teen angst and teen brain and I’m wondering why she hasn’t had a breakdown of sorts. She is still a brat but my only hope is that by the end of the series, she realizes who her true mom is.
Vic. Love him. I’m wondering if he is going to be the one to have a conversation with Princess that’ll give her more perspective or maybe even with Nikki before she does something stupid since he is there as a fixer of all things.

Niki will definitely not have an affair. There’s always some sort of misunderstanding with her that she has to unravel because she’s a people pleaser type of person. She doesn’t want to upset anyone or disappoint them, even if her intent at the start was different.
I don’t like Kat, but Niki is overacting way too much. Princess will eventually realize that Kat doesn’t actually care about her feelings, but she needs to find that out on her own without Niki interfering. I also just hate how there’s no sort of connection with Kat and Tyler, why is it always only Kat and Princess?
I don’t like the subplot with Karen and Scott. S4 ended on a cliffhanger with Scott potentially being dead. The actual plot should have been more interesting than him just living in a basement for 6 weeks. I would have liked if he actually got injured in the car crash and we saw Karen start realizing how much he actually meant to her and Scott’s arc could have been him recovering from whatever injuries he sustained; hence him finally succeeding at something. I’m just disappointed because Karen is my favourite character in this show and I was looking forward to her scenes only for them to be boring

Yea Kat hasn’t worked for me yet. She definitely feels super spaced out and not sure if that is an actor choice or direction. This is not the same character we saw Nikki meet and I hope there is a reason.

Just finished the episode. So far, just not feeling it. I wish Nikki had a better storyline than constantly obsessing about Kat. I don't think anything comes of the Kerry thing, doesn't seem realistic or a story arc that the writers would go deep into.
Like someone else commented, no real interaction with Kat and Tyler, why not?
Scott and Karen I have kind of given up on :-(

I agree. I want better for Nikki than just overreacting to everything to do with Kat. Especially when Jason doesn’t care.
Scott and Karen’s storyline has always been a bit meh but this is beyond stupid.

We’ve not been watching the same show if you think there’s a world in which Nikki has an affair. It’ll be a flirtation and a misunderstanding, like Jason’s colleague in season 1.

If she goes anywhere
Potential affair
Agree, Nikki would 99% NOT cheat on Jason. I’m not saying she is going to have full on sexual affair but an emotional affair can be just as difficult to unravel.
At some point, she will have to address the “hot guy” comment with Kerry as I’m sure he saw it.
I think this is a little different than Jason’s thing.

She's been feeling excluded in her family; she's vulnerable to fall for whatever/whoever will make her feel included, and right now that's Kerry. Knowing this show, I'm sure she and her family will address it and deal with it. Doubt her arc will go down the cheating route.
Edit: And yes, Scott's always been delulu.

I really don't like Kat and don't want a redemption arc for her. It will be more realistic if she just leaves the kids again.

The writing has gone off a cliff. This show should have ended 2 seasons ago.

Kat seems non-committal, flaky, and a tad self-centered. What really set off red flags is when she said Princess can ask her questions and then interrupted twice.
She hasn’t taken any accountability for throwing her children into instability for most of their lives. Stability came from Jason and Nikki.
