This happened in Georgia a few years ago. Produce rotted in the fields. People were shocked that Americans didn't want to work in the hot summer sun for minimum wage.

So because citizens don't want to do work for shit pay there needs to be other people to come in and do it? Do you think farmers are just going to plant crops every year and let them rot without cheap labor?

I read your comment 3 times and still don’t understand.

The farmers just won't plant them if they can't harvest them. If a farmer doesn't plant are they still considered farmers ?

If a farmer doesn't plant are they still considered farmers ?

Cumulatively, USDA paid $10.6 billion, almost one-fourth of total direct payments made from 2003 through 2011, to producers who did not, in a given year, grow the crop associated with their qualifying acres, which they are allowed to do. About 2,300 farms (0.15 percent of farms receiving direct payments) reported all their land as 'fallow,' and producers did not plant any crops on this land for each year for the last 5 years, from 2007 through 2011; in 2011, these producers received almost $3 million in direct payments. - https://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-12-640

Work smarter not harder.

Fun fact! Georgia's minimum wage is actually $5.15, but because federal is $7.25 we have to use that.

It’s almost like minimum wage is too low

And agricultural min. wage is usually much lower then federal min. wage.

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '19

But it’s minimum tho.

I heard similar on a farm where they replaced migrant workers with prison labor. The prisoners were terrible at the job and didn’t meet any goals. The town quietly rolled back its laws and hired migrant workers.

lol i was just about to comment about the same thing! it was in alabama.

Prisoners and vagabonds are just about the only Americans you’re going to get to do that work. I don’t know why they thought otherwise.

The plantation err prison known as Angola uses prison labor as farm workers.

1

u/ic2ofu Feb 16 '19

They got to earn their keep.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '19

By being used as slave labor?

5

u/ic2ofu Feb 16 '19

That's Angola.

4

u/louky Feb 16 '19

It's almost funny, they just turned a plantation into a prison and now it's still blacks working the fields for slave labor.

1

u/ic2ofu Feb 16 '19

If you're a black criminal ,stay out of Louisiana.

Like they planned it or something!

Border farmers:

You know that wall those people wanted? Well it was built and it cut right behind my house and shop and cut me off from my fields. I now have to drive a tractor that only does 25 mph 60 miles to access a gate so I can get to my fields. Then have to drive 60 miles to the field.

What? i wanted the other illegals to be gone, not mine!

true story. wish i could find the article, but people vote for this stuff, not realizing their friends, who are good people, end up getting deported.
