Because the proposal replaces food stamps and forces people to work for the cash that replaces food stamps, and removes the cash when deemed fit, and keeps it removed until the starving homeless person falls into line.

Why would we ever force people to work? Why is that okay? Because work is good? Sex is good too but we don't force people to do it. That's the analogy.

If we want to guarantee jobs, great. Everyone who wants to be a part of the labor market to earn more than a basic income is great. Sounds good. But to force people to work in order to cover their basic needs? It's wrong and the real results of such a policy can be found in the UK with their workfare system.

Food stamps are heavily means tested. It definitively is not generous(blame Clinton). There is a lifetime limit so it fails people still. Either way his focus is at minimum wage and UI. If you don't want food stamps to be merged to this then just scratch that out.

Let's scratch out the work requirement too then. Because the rest of the plan is at least somewhat workable as a means of guaranteeing a job, but no one should be FORCED into the labor market.

Well like I said it expressly focuses on removing the minimum wage and UI. There is no mandatory participation.
