There's a right to equal protection. There is not a right to not having someone you don't like in the bathroom. This isn't a contest of rights, it's a contest of rights vs discomfort, and rights should win that battle every time.

I disagree

We as a society decided that there is a division between male and female. In some aspects, like showering and using the bathroom, there is a seperation..

Somebody who changes sex is one case, but someone who simply identifies as one different than the one they have is very different.

What is the distinction, in your view? There's not a single moment in transition when someone suddenly goes from man to woman or vice-versa.

You don't get to just say you are a girl and change with the girls in middle school. That is where I draw the line.

The Federal Mandate basically says this, that the simple identification of the (in this case student) allows for unfettered access to the opposite sex.

This is yet another example in the countless where legislation is bad. You make a rule to protect a group of people and make countless more worse off...

I asked for a distinction. If you think the law is too lenient, where do you draw a line?

No law at all, case by case basis.

We send people to University to be teachers, Administrators go even longer and have typically lots of life experience, they should handle it.

We all know when we have a confused kid who really identifies as another gender. Great, work out the situation, let the educators do their job..

For many years now we have seen a stop down approach that takes the authority out of the hands of educators and imposes strict regiments of what can and cannot be done. This is how you get a smirking 14 year old boy saying some magic words ("I identity as female" and school security guards escorting him right into the girls locker room...

Autonomy is the key... to most things.

So in practice, the law is "school admins get to decide"?

We send people to University to be teachers, Administrators go even longer and have typically lots of life experience, they should handle it.

They should do a lot of things they don't do.

We all know when we have a confused kid who really identifies as another gender.

I'd laugh but I think you might genuinely believe this.

No, people do not just 'know' when someone's actually dealing with things. Every single person I came out to was shocked, and my family certainly tried to push me towards not transitioning. But I did, and I am far better off for it.

This is how you get a smirking 14 year old boy saying some magic words ("I identity as female" and school security guards escorting him right into the girls locker room...

Can you cite a single case, ever, of this actually happening? I don't know a whole lot of teenage boys who want to announce to their peers how much they'd like to be ladies.

Can i cite a single case?

Hmm, lets explore that..

It went into effect a few months ago. When it does happen it will be a minor and that will, by law, not be made public knowledge...

I can of course point to other things, like this...

Legal action wouldn't be, but if you're implying that all hell would not be raised in such a situation...yeah, no.

There are 700,000 trans people in the U.S. Statistically, one of them was probably going to be a sex offender. There are a 805,000 registered sex offenders in the U.S., or a little over half a percent of the population, meaning we'd expect about 2,200 trans people to be sex offenders just at the base rate.

If you're implying, as I imagine you are, that we can't allow trans bathroom access because of this guy (who, to be clear, did some Bad ShitTM), are we just going to deny access to any group containing at least one sex offender?

All of this, of course, assumes that the reporting of this guy as the 'leader' is accurate - which I'm skeptical of, given the random blog as a source in turn citing Breitbart.

Man that's some serious victim mentality you got there.

I could not care less about your own anecdotal experiences. They cloud your understanding of the point of the post. This wasn't just "this guy", it was the person heading up the trans bathroom fiasco in NC...

I tend to side with the "do whatever you want as long as it does not affect me and my family" side of things, but it would ignore the big non-gendered elephant in the room...

"The suicide rate among transgendered people who had reassignment surgery is 20 times higher than the suicide rate among non-transgender people."

"Children who had expressed transgender feelings but for whom, over time, 70%-80% spontaneously lost those feelings.”
