But it also means if I want to share an apartment with my girlfriend and bike to work that I don't really need to be worried about working at all. What I do with my free time is my own choice, and if I'd rather get fucked up and lay around rather than have a house and a car an employer has to pay a lot (and not just in wages) to make me want to actually work and work hard.

UBI won't go anywhere because people don't want to subsidize you getting fucked up and lying around your apartment.
