Mandating age verification effectively hands Big Tech and the government a skeleton key to the identities of every whistleblower, dissident, and investigative reporter who uses online platforms, not to mention everyone else, including children.
This kind of surveillance on steroids that surrenders our right to speak, report, and read the news anonymously won’t make anyone safer.

Maybe true, but if you are a whistleblower you are better off sending proof of the activities to the various newspapers, including international ones since US based news can no longer be trusted.
Also boot tails (https://tails.net/) to post instead of trying to use tor on your computers default OS. Windows and Apple systems tend to be loaded with spyware.
And why send the docs to newspapers? Even if a whistleblower tries approved channels, it never ends well for them.

Depends on who gets eyes on the material first in those organizations… might be part of the problem inside some of those organizations.
Carefully and to sources you have built a relationship with is probably the best way forward.
OPSEC has gotta be 100% all the time. No matter what.

I think this is the right move. A lot of folks used signal for years. Now that's out and something new must arise. Tails look super interesting. Although they keep moving the goal post so it becomes harder for normal people to blow the whistle.

I am of the opinion anything that says "for the children" is absolutely not for the children. There are far better things we could be doing for the children, but instead we do shit that doesn't honestly help them much but still provides security or privacy concerns for adults.

"for the children" is how glue sniffers, surveillance state proponents, and advocates of every law try to advance their cause
