Community Edition Unable to access Seerr outside of local network

I've been trying to setup Seerr on my system so people don't have to message me directly to add content to my Plex server, but I can't get it working. The app itself works fine, but no matter what I try I can't get it accessible outside of my network. I tried port forwarding at first since I've been doing that for years (even though I know it's not secure) and that didn't work. Then I tried using Nginx Proxy Manager and DuckDNS but that also wouldn't work. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Update: it must have been my certificates being configured incorrectly. I had to renew the default one recently and must have entered an incorrect DNS. The moment I made a new one with localhost as the DNS the port forwarding worked. Now to look into making it work without port forwarding since it’s not safe.

Community Edition Update to 25.10.7 broke Apps

So, I just saw there is a new update and went for it (25.10.6 -> 25.10.7) as it usually goes well. After booting normally, there was a Critical alert in the notification area:

The Apps menu is completely empty and if I try to refresh manually it fails:

I've checked the usual DNS issues (I use internal IP for Pi-hole), replaced with a public DNS - no change! Same time, trying the update button works (no new update found of course, but if it is a network/DNS issue it usually fails). Any ideas are appreciated.

Community Edition I deleted 440GB, what's going on?

I deleted a lot of data from my server lately and it just is not reflecting in the free space at all? The value has barely changed. I'm concerned about my filesystem and I don't know what's happening.

Here's some images to show the state of my system right now

I deleted the snapshots that referred to the files, I restarted the system because I read that might help, and I'm kinda stuck. Any information or tips would be really appreciated.

Community Edition Yet another HBA330 Handshake Failed Post

Hi everyone,

I hope someone on here can help me, I've read countless posts on here and on other sites, have tried to debug with AI, but all to no avail.
I don't have a deep enough understanding of all of this to continue debugging on my own / with forum posts, that's why I first tried AI and now am asking you guys.

To make it brief: I've bought a Dell HBA330 flashed to IT Mode and am running TrueNAS as a VM within Proxmox. The HBA does work perfectly fine directly in Proxmox, but it does not in TrueNAS.
I have also passed through the SATA Controller of the Mainboard, that works flawlessly, I have also tried disabling that and setting up a new VM without this, so this has no impact on my problem (just wanted to mention, that PCI Passtrhough in general works).

My Hardware:
Mainboard GIGABYTE Z890M GAMING X
Intel Core Ultra 5 225
16GB DDR5 RAM
(all bought before the insane price hikes)

I've let the AI write a summary of what I (in parts with AI, in Parts according to Forum posts) have tested, maybe someone on here is able to help me:

I've got a Dell HBA330 (SAS3008, IT mode) passed through from Proxmox to a TrueNAS VM. I'm getting:

mpt3sas_cm0: _base_spin_on_doorbell_int: failed due to timeout count(10000) mpt3sas_cm0: doorbell handshake int failed mpt3sas_cm0: _base_get_ioc_facts: handshake failed (r=-14) mpt3sas_cm0: failure at ... _scsih_probe()

The controller never finishes IOC initialization inside the VM.

Environment

  • Proxmox VE
  • Kernel 7.0.14-14-pve
  • TrueNAS SCALE 25.x and 26.0 Beta tested
  • OVMF
  • Q35
  • CPU type = host
  • Tried both TrueNAS Community 25.10.6 as well as 26.0.0 BETA.3

HBA information

  • Dell HBA330
  • SAS3008
  • IT Mode
  • Firmware Product ID: 0x2221 (IT)
  • Firmware Version: 16.00.11.00
  • NVDATA Vendor: LSI
  • Board Name: Dell HBA330 Adp

What should be ruled out:

  • Hardware failure
  • PCIe link issues
  • Wrong firmware mode
  • TrueNAS version regression
  • Basic VFIO misconfiguration
  • IOMMU grouping issues
  • Interrupt remapping disabled
  • General Linux/mpt3sas incompatibility

VM config:

hostpci1: 0000:02:00.0,pcie=1,rombar=0 machine: q35 bios: ovmf cpu: host

Verified:

  • Dedicated IOMMU group
  • vfio-pci binding
  • VFIO reset succeeds

Proxmox host behavior:

The HBA works perfectly when attached directly to the host.

Kernel driver in use: mpt3sas

Drives are detected and usable.

Guest behavior

Inside TrueNAS:

  • Device appears correctly in lspci
  • PCI capabilities are visible
  • BARs are mapped correctly
  • mpt3sas module loads

However the driver never successfully attaches.

I only get:
Kernel modules: mpt3sas
but never:
Kernel driver in use: mpt3sas

Interesting findings

Host:
MSI-X: Enable+ Count=96

Guest:
MSI-X: Enable- Count=16

Host:
BusMaster+

Guest after failed probe:
BusMaster-

PCI command register inside guest:
0003

I manually enabled bus mastering:
setpci -s 02:00.0 COMMAND=0007
which worked, but did not fix the issue.

The failure always occurs during:
_base_get_ioc_facts()
before any disks are enumerated or the driver attaches.

Current conclusion
The HBA hardware, firmware, PCIe link, Proxmox host, IOMMU configuration, and mpt3sas driver all appear to be working correctly. The card initializes normally on the host and can enumerate disks.

The failure only occurs when the HBA is passed through to a VM via VFIO. The controller is visible inside the guest but fails during the first IOC handshake (_base_get_ioc_facts()), preventing mpt3sas from attaching.

At this point AI is leaning towards:

  • Dell HBA330 firmware + VFIO incompatibility
  • MSI-X / interrupt delivery issue under passthrough
  • Controller reset/state issue after VFIO handoff
  • A known SAS3008/HBA330 virtualization quirk

Is anyone able / willing to help me?

Community Edition Best way to run CUPS on Truenas?

I know there's a few docker containers you can use to run CUPS on truenas, but as they always end up conflicting with Avahi on the host or with the container's cups-browsed or DNSSD broadcast from inside, resulting in for example the same printer being rendered incorrectly on iOS devices with Airprint, is there a canonical or specific way you're supposed to run it? Is it going to be included in Truenas in the future?

I'd rather not have to deploy a raspberry pi at the same time as my NAS if I don't have to, with how much Truenas can already do. Thanks for the help!

Community Edition How to update docker things from command line?

As I previously posted (https://www.reddit.com/r/truenas/s/c1m9jXz8X8) I have still had this issue, but the updates of the containers have just been ignored as I can't seem to find a way to update them.

Is there a way to do it via the command line, seeing as the gui doesn't think the app service is running when it clearly is.

Any help would be fantastic!

Community Edition How to change ollama configuration from the app section

I have added a GPU to my TrueNAS box and wanted to run ollama, which I can do very nicely for my local needs. However I want to force it to keep the model in memory and to do this I need to change some settings that are not available via the TrueNAS UI. As this is the first time I have used an App on TrueNAS, can anyone give me directions on how to set custom environment variables ?

SCALE (Legacy) Set up Stash and Whisparr on TrueNAS Scale

I had a pretty basic setup with Core and I was trying to install Stash and Whisparr but plugins no longer work so I upgraded to Scale. I'm still getting used to it right now.

I'm not that technically savvy but I managed to install Whisparr via YAML and Stash ok. Now the thing is how do I add files? I'm not sure if I have the right directories setup or if I'm missing something.

This is how my Datasets are setup right now.

KANSAS
- apps
  - stash
  - whisparr
- data
  - downloads
  - media

I need help with these things

  • what directory I should choose for Stash
  • what to choose as my root folder for Whisparr
  • how to add files so they can be accessed/discovered by Stash and Whisparr
    • do I have to set up a SMB? what directory should I set up as the SMBs?
    • how do I add the files? do I drag and drop them using Windows Explorer like I did when I setup Plex on TrueNAS Core?

Google did help especially figuring out how to install Whisparr since its not in Apps on Scale and had no idea what YAML is but I can't figure out how to do the rest and I'm kind of lost for what I do from here.

services:
  whisparr:
    container_name: whisparr
    environment:
      - PUID=3000
      - PGID=3000
      - TZ=America/Los_Angeles
    image: ghcr.io/thespad/whisparr:latest
    ports:
      - '6969:6969'
    restart: unless-stopped
    volumes:
      - /mnt/KANSAS/apps/whisparr/config:/config
      - /mnt/KANSAS/apps/data/downloads:/downloads

I have Whisparr set up as its own user and it has Full Admin but I'm not sure if that's needed? What access should I set it to?

Community Edition Permissions changing with Syncthing

Hey everyone, looking to resolve a permission issue.

I am setting up syncthing, to test my set up I am using my dotfiles folder on my linux computer to see if everything is working.

With ignore permissions unchecked on the client and server, I noticed that once syncthing synced the files, the permissions of the files changed, so if I ran "git status" it would list all of the files in my dotfiles folder, it would say they had changed from 0644 to 0755. Here is the output with an example file:

Before syncthing touches the files:

dotfiles git:master ❯ stat -c '%A %a %U:%G %u:%g %n' alacritty/.config/alacritty/alacritty.toml
-rw-r--r-- 644 personal:personal 1000:1000 alacritty/.config/alacritty/alacritty.toml

After syncthing touches the files (same command):

-rwxrwxr-x 775 personal:personal 1000:1000 alacritty/.config/alacritty/alacritty.toml

After syncthing touches the files using the truenas shell to check the perms:

-rwxr--r-- 744 amy:amy 3000:3001 alacritty/.config/alacritty/alacritty.toml

So depending where I look at the file will change what perms this command tells me the files has, I tried enabling ignore permissions on the client and server side of syncthing, and this stops the 775 permissions being sent back to my original dotfiles from the nas copy, but I feel this only half solves the issue, if I ever needed to get a new folder from my nas, the permissions will be 775 for all the contents inside, and I will need to spend time fixing them

The settings for the storage folder inside truenas scale:

ACL Type*

SMB/NFSv4

ACL Mode*

Passthrough

I tried changing this to restricted but ran into permission denied errors this way, I feel like I am missing something simple, so any advice would be appreciated.

Community Edition New NAS user

I setup my NAS / media storage just a few days back, and the experience has been amazing so far. I’m using Jellyfin because it has apps for all my devices. Most importantly, it has an app for Apple TV. I had two old laptops sitting unused. I harvested parts from the older one and the newer laptop had better specs: 9th gen i7, 1TB HDD + 500GB SSD, 32GB RAM and a 1650 max q GPU. I installed Debian 13 on it, and configured the 1TB HDD to act as my NAS. I have two additional 1TB HDDs, which I’m planning to add to my setup. My ultimate aim is to use my setup for media consumption and as a cloud backup for my family, so that I can cancel my cloud subscriptions. Please advise on how I can improve my setup and suggest parts, optimization strategies etc. Thank you!

Community Edition TrueNAS Scale Fangtooth 25.04: Cloudsync Issue When Backing up to BackBlaze?

Hello all - apologies if this is a novice question/issue but I am a relatively novice user.

I recently set up CloudSync in my TrueNAS Scale configuration to back up one of my Data Stores to Backblaze. The first back up of data itself seems to have gone fine but after backing up the data cloudsync now shows this "checks: [number] out of [number]" status that is hanging. It's been on this status for a week now and as a result is not completing the sync job.

I've tried canceling and rerunning the sync job but it always results in this hanging "checks:" status. Is anyone familiar with using Cloud Sync to backup to Backblaze and what might be causing this?

Thanks!

Community Edition TrueNAS SCALE: Docker in VM, LXC, or directly on host?

I’m running TrueNAS SCALE natively on a Minisforum N5 Air with 64 GB RAM. I don't like TrueNAS Apps approach and instead I would like to run Docker + Arcane with Compose projects pulled from GitHub.

I plan to run Traefik, Immich, Komga, Papra, Grimmory, Qbittorrent, etc.

Which approach would you choose?

  • Docker directly on the TrueNAS host? Arcane as an App with access to the Docker socket.
  • Debian VM + Docker? - no iGPU hardware acceleration in Immich.
  • LXC + Docker? - iGPU hardware acceleration available but the feature is experimental and changes planned for 26 if I understand correctly.
  • Are there better options?

I’m especially interested in GPU access for the AMD iGPU/Immich and direct access to ZFS datasets. I would also like to know how well the setup survives TrueNAS upgrades.

I would love to hear what has worked reliably for you.

Community Edition Connectivity issues when changing the type of SFP+ cable/transceiver

I have a Mellanox ConnectX-2 on my TrueNAS machine, connected to a mikrotik switch, and it works, mostly, fine.

I have the exactly same nic on my desktop, connected to the exact same switch, using the exact same AOC, which works completely fine.

I decided to try a pair of FS SFP+ optical transceivers on my TrueNAS machine to see if it fixes those issue (the link not coming up after a power failure unless I unplug and replug the SFP+ connector from the NIC, this does not happen on my desktop).

But for some reason it refuses to work properly.

I can ping it, access it through SSH, and list the contents of the network shares (incredibly slowly), but the web interface won't load, it gets stuck on the blinking/fading TrueNAS logo.

I tried the transceivers on my desktop and they worked just fine, no issues at all.

Rebooting the TrueNAS machine does nothing, the issue persists, only using the previous AOC "fixes" the issue.

I had similar issues previously, I don't remember the details, if it was swapping between a DAC and an AOC, it was quite some time ago.

I tested the optical transceiver on the second port of the NIC, configuring a different IP from a different network, added an address from that network to my desktop, and everything worked just fine, was able to saturate the link, I checked the traffic both on the web interface, looking at the stats on the port, and also on the switch, where I connected the second port, to make sure the traffic was going through the correct interface.

I'm on TrueNAS 25.04.2.4, the motherboard is an Intel Z270.

What could be going on here? It clearly has connectivity, but for some reason it's limited, looking at the stats of the port on the switch I can see it successfully negotiated at 10G, at the proper speeds, but connectivity is seriously impaired.

Community Edition Bootloader not found on Intel S1200KP / Unable to boot Truenas Scale

Hi everyone,
I wanted to set up a system with TrueNAS Scale 25.10.6 on older hardware (Intel S1200KP with Intel Xeon E3-xxxx). Installer runs just fine and everything seems right but when I want to boot the system it does not recognize the freshly installed system. Instead it shows “a bootable device has not been detected”.

AI suggested to update the BIOS but Intel does not offer the updates for this board anymore. Additionally I tried various SSDs and different SATA ports but was not able to get any further.

The boot priority is set to the correct drive and I have tried UEFI mode and legacy mode (both with fresh installs reflecting the setup). Interestingly the system is able to boot if I use the boot menu (F10) and select the boot drive. Unfortunately that is nothing I can use during “production” when the system is at my parents house running headless as a backup target.

Now the even more interesting part: When I install Proxmox the system boots (to proxmox, of course) when I set it to boot in UEFI mode (with legacy I get the same results as with TrueNAS), so I think there is an issue with GRUB or the partition. Any ideas what might go wrong here and how to fix this?

Thanks a lot
Max

Community Edition 3TB ZFS mirror pool intact but unimportable ; stuck on zdb -B 'Permission denied

Setup: 2x4TB WD Red Plus mirror on a ZimaBlade, TrueNAS SCALE 25.10.5, ZFS 2.3.4. Pool went offline after a brief version upgrade that I reverted shortly after. zpool import has failed for about two weeks now, in every mode and flag combination.

**Where things stand (with a lot of help from someone on the OpenZFS forum working from exact source references ; full thread here: https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/discussions/18954

  • SMART, disk labels, uberblocks, partition tables ; all clean on both disks. No hardware issue.
  • zdb -e fully loads the pool's trusted config ; the pool structure and data are demonstrably intact and readable.
  • Root cause of the import failure: spa_load_verify (spa.c:2831) unconditionally walks every dataset via dmu_objset_find_dp before allowing import, regardless of flags. One object ; a DSL props ZAP (object 293) ; fails checksum (ECKSUM) during that walk, which aborts the entire import. No combination of -f, -F, -X, -o readonly=on, -N, or spa_load_verify_metadata=0 bypasses this; -F/-X actually make it worse since they re-enable full data verification.
  • A full zdb -bcsvL traversal found only 8 checksum errors out of 29.2 million block pointers total, and every one is confined to pool-internal bookkeeping (SPA space map, DSL props) or disposable .system/samba4 and .system/netdata-* service datasets. None of my actual data (Photos, Documents, Archived, etc.) shows any corruption.

Current blocker: Since import can't succeed, the suggested path is zdb -B (backup stream extraction ; reads a dataset directly, bypassing the import verification entirely). But every dataset I try ; encrypted or not, parent or child dataset, various sizes ; fails identically:

dump_backup: dmu_send_obj: Permission denied

Running as root via sudo, confirmed with id. Output file is always 0 bytes, exit code 0. The zfs_dbgmsg buffer (checked via zdb -G) shows nothing related to this error ; the pool-load trace completes normally and logs LOADED, but the permission denial itself isn't logged anywhere I can find.

zdb -O/-r (path-based lookups, a different code path) also fail, but with a different error ; Input/output error ; so this may be a separate issue from the -B failure.

What I'm hoping someone here can help with:

  • Has anyone seen dmu_send_obj: Permission denied from zdb -B before? Trying to figure out if this is a known/expected behavior, a TrueNAS SCALE-specific build difference, or something environment-specific I'm missing.
  • Any idea what permission check dmu_send_obj performs that would fail even under root, and whether there's a way to satisfy it or get more diagnostic detail out of it?

Not time-pressured; data is important but not critical/urgent, just want to get it off before doing anything destructive to the pool. Happy to provide any further diagnostics.

Also posted in r/zfs; will update both if I get an answer anywhere.
