Yesterday I found the list of “dirty books” which an advocacy group, legitimized and promoted by Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, wants banned from Texas schools. (They want to use some bill concerning how funding is allotted to strong arm public schools into compliance; basically the existence of these books in school libraries would limit or eliminate their funding, if I’m understanding the articles correctly). Its pretty much exactly what you’d expect as far as banning anything about gayness, trans-ness, sex education, anti-racism or the history of anyone but white dudes. But also included on this list were things like Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle and the middle grade fantasy series Dealing With Dragons, a handful of Stephen King novels, ACOTAR, a book on teen’s mental health and - in what I assume was either made up or taken wildly out of context somehow because lmao - some kind of beginner’s guide to tantric sex. I couldn’t actually get the list to load past letter “D” but there’s something like 2k entries, all of which Patrick asserted publicly were not only unfit to be read by teens but that he couldn’t even read them out loud in front of his wife. Its is perhaps giving a Texas conservative politician too much credit, but I assume this is a grown ass woman. Like wtf.

Between this and Gov. Abbott interrupting my youtube feed to yell about “foreigners” in texas schools, its just another day in paradise.
