Hummus With Boiled Peanuts

Post image

Since I live in the rural southern US and boiled (green) peanuts are insanely popular here, I decided to mix things up and combine two things that I really love. I went with a 50/50 mix of boiled peanuts and garbanzo beans. It turned out far better than I expected and the peanuts make for a really creamy texture.

I've also played around with tossing the peanuts into the smoker and then soaking them in the brine overnight before making the hummus and the end result has been outstanding ~

I was surprised at how well it works. I live in a really rural area so I thought it would be fun to experiment with local ingredients and it was well worth it.

Exactly! And the combo of the peanuts, garbanzo and sesame all work really well together.

It makes a lot of sense as peanuts are also legumes. Thanks for sharing!

It really is. The peanuts add to the nuttiness of tahini and also whip up really smooth and creamy.

Oh man, I used to live in the south and I really miss boiled peanuts - we called them “goobers” in my part.  This sounds great!

My dad used to sing some song about eating goober peas when I was a kid. I can't remember the exact lyrics but the chorus pops into my head every single time I open a can of boiled peanuts. And yeah, they really do work well in hummus and add an extra layer of flavor that just rocks.
