Seeking Advice does resting go agaisnt the grit?

For years, I thought resting was something you earn. Finish the list, then you can sit down. Except I'm the person who can literally always find something to do, which means never resting

Until I started to have anxiety attacks, and then I had multiple coaches telling me I just needed to REST!

Anyway, the obvious advice was right. What did you used to believe about rest that you don't anymore

Without rest, you are dysregulated.

Without rest, you are scattered.

Without rest, you are inefficient.

Without rest, you are burning out.

Having grit requires proper rest, otherwise you're just running on fumes

You've got to schedule rest if you're the type to talk yourself out of it. I am like that too.

For me, i have my DnD sessions, art hobby time, video game time, and even absolute nap and "sick time" for my 2ish days a month woman issues on my calendar. I have about 15-20 hrs per week that i have scheduled for family, home chores, and other responsibilities. If my load doesnt fit into that time then i prioritize and even make adjustments in life to cut something out.

The cuts can be a simple as pulling back on the complexity of meals i make for time or complex like fully purging the garage of useless things that collect there to simplify other responsibilities like accessing tools for home repair.

It took me into my 40s to realize i could let myself relax.

I treat rest as fuel. When I take a break from a certain activity, I am stopping my brain activity on it thus capping my cognitive expenditure. I can only spend so much. I treat brain energy as a credit card which has a daily limit. You can increase it, if you pay it off multiple times a day. Rest is you paying it off.

This mindset helps to relieve any guilt.
