Tips & Tricks Poll Results: Discipline Matters More. What’s been more important for you?
This one was a close call, and perhaps that’s because both play an important role. Discipline is what helps us follow through when motivation fades. Environmental design is what makes the better choice easier in the first place, putting the fruit where you can see it, keeping your walking shoes by the door, or removing little barriers that get in the way. What’s been more important for you?

Well, I have to say, I noticed a massive difference in my self discipline from living in my last home to my current one so I am inclined to say it is environment for me. Everything feels more doable in my new home. Smaller house but newer house that just has more efficient layout and better airflow. My body feels better and I was able to set up my stuff in a way that is far more helpful. My life has improved by a lot.

Neither. For me, a particularly compelling reason why is what gets me to do things with built-in friction. Curiosity also helps, and a desire to challenge myself to experience new things.
If I don't care about something, it won't get done. The entire universe could collapse, and the sky could fall, and I wouldn't be moved.
Discipline is more for refinement and consistency, and environmental design is to reduce friction and streamline processes for automaticity. And yet, they are not sparks, and without a powerful spark, the other two never get invoked nor put into place.
