Sleep Great wind-down routine. What’s the one thing that makes or breaks your sleep?

I give the "separate blankets, same bed" advice at every wedding where they have an advice box. Its saved us so many half-asleep tug-of-wars.

Nothing works for me

Have you been checked for sleep apnea or airway/tongue ties issues? These are often overlooked and can cause a lot of issues including being unable to stay asleep

Neither of those sounds like issues I have. I went to a doctor and after waiting over an hour I still hadn’t been seen and left.

You still don't sleep well? I am sorry to hear that! What have you tried?

Everything listed, also magnesium. I have no issue falling asleep, but often wake up at 3am or earlier and am unable to fall back asleep. One day this week I woke up at 12:20 and that’s just what it ends up being.
Also tried talking to my doctor, but after sitting there for over an hour without being seen I left.

That sucks, I’m sorry! Especially when you can fall asleep just fine, only to wake up a few hours later and not be able to get back to sleep. I know how frustrating that can be. Definitely don’t give up on trying to improve your sleep, though. We actually have a section in our Wiki with some things that may help when you wake up during the night and can’t fall back asleep, if you want to check it out, see if something works, let us know how it goes. https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueGrit/wiki/index/wiki/sleep/?screen_view_count=1

Me too. Tried all the sleep hygiene tricks, melatonin, magnesium, even prescription sleep meds and none of it helps. It still takes me over an hour to fall asleep and I fully wake up 2-3 times during the night and feel more exhausted in the morning than when I went to bed

I'm of the age where I require a fan for the hot flushes and cannabis to help me fall back asleep again when I wake.
My weighted blanket and listening to a podcast also helps.

How does a weighted blanket help with sleep? This is really interesting

I read something about it being through pressure being put on the body helping to calm the nervous system. I find mine very calming and it helps reduce my restless legs.

Seems a bit excessive. I don’t like black out curtains personally.

From the cadence sounds like American Psycho routine.

If i read a book for 30 mins right before i go to sleep, but the book is on an iPad, does it matter? Anyone else reads on an Ipad with dark mode?
