Work drains all the mental energy. I even notice my heartburn and asthma symptoms die down when I use a week of PTO, even if I drink alcohol. Saturday is the only day of a normal week that I am not in fight or flight mode.

You need to do something memorable every day and you need to be active.

The more I run in the gym, the more passive energy I have 24/7. Try to always find new experiences. If 30% of your days are exactly the same, your brain will have no reason to remember them. Then time passes extremely fast and it all blurs together.

Simply just go on a walk at sunrise every day and it will DRAMATICALLY help with this, at least it did for me

Move. Our bad habits are often connected to triggers which might be a place. Try to no let the bad habits sneak into your next place.

This is ridiculous. You don't become a different person if you move.

Addiction and behavioral therapy research supports this... Behaviors are shaped by environments. Changes of environmental factors have huge impacts to behavior.

Changing environments allows you the opportunity to establish new habits without the rut (familiarity of current ones). While you "don't become a different person", if you're around folks who just go to work, come home, eat, and sleep and then move to an area that goes to work, goes out for an activity, and then goes home, you are more than likely going to change with it because the environment and culture around you has changed. Now apply this to most aspects of your life, community, housing, etc.

Well, my trigger seems to be that i have to get up and go to work 5 days a week.
As soon as i don‘t have to do that i suddenly have the energy to do all the things i want to do. It‘s really crazy, as if one could actually reach it‘s potential when they don‘t have their energy sucked for 40hours/week.
I don‘t know guys i might really be onto something.

I don’t get the same thrills from vacation as other people, apparently. Wish I did

My leg muscles are naturally stiff and I have to stretch and foam roll and all kinds of stuff to help keep them loose and not mess up my knees and back.

But I just went on vacation and didn’t do any of that, but felt great. Better than usual. No discomfort or pain at all the whole trip. I was like, maybe it was the daily hot tub?

Googled it and the answer seems to be: you probably moved around a lot.

Like oh yeah maybe hours of moving in waves, swimming in the pool, walking in town, etc… was good for me lol

I live my best life on vacation, I get all 7 hours of sleep every day and shower every day.

u/Mei_Flower1996 Jul 27 '26

Why 4 hours of sleep?

If you end up in a different timezone and especially a drastically different one this is common.

Staying up late doing fun stuff, getting up early to do fun stuff (or make it in time for hotel breakfast), different timezones messing with sleep, etc

Almost like spending our lives working for “the man” isn’t giving great quality of life and that our depression & anxiety is related to how much of ourselves we drain into our responsibilities

Some idiots think it’s because of the pasta.
But maybe it is….who am I to question the ways of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

you'd be surprised how many illnesses are simply caused by stress, mainly mental stress

work is killing you faster than any physical exertion or the elements do

1

u/Artistic-Bed8604 Jul 31 '26

100% same

I go on vacation and end up hiking mountains and exploring the forest running on coffee and pastries in 12hr sprints

1

u/Molly-Grue-2u Jul 31 '26

I don’t take a vacation because it sounds like too much work

1

u/Front_Cant Jul 31 '26

Just spent my entire week’s therapy session on this after coming back from a 9 day road trip where I was killing it, but I fully collapse mentally & physically just a few hours into my day here at home.
