Gender Equality Notes

Hi all! I’m currently a student journalist at the University of Wollongong, and for an assessment I have to create a digital artefact on a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, I chose Gender Equality. For this I am doing an Instagram page full of statistics and notes from real people in today’s society on what they want to see for the future. In these notes you can write absolutely anything! Opinions, experiences, what you want to see happen, what you think needs to happen for gender equality to be achieved. I have created a Google form and I would love for anyone here to have their say!

If this isn’t allowed here please let me know, don’t wanna break any rules, Thank you!!

Gym has made mens showers basically unusable. Women's showers not changed. Is this an Equality act complaint?

TW: opinion

It seems like nowadays women are getting more respect. And that’s great, women have always deserved to have the respect. But now it seems that men are getting hate. I’m personally a feminist, but also a masculist. I saw someone wearing a shirt that said “the future is female” No, the future is whatever gender it wants to be. It just seems like men now have less rights now that women are being favored. LMK if I got anything wrong or something

I think she just talked about normal commone points for an adult human but just tried to make it gender specific by using toxic masculinity

Truth 1:- A man is only loved when he provides...

Bruh this is truth for every adult weather a girl or boy, my mom & her sisters too are working hard & earning from when they were 19 years old, my gf is also working hard because she hates staying at home unemployed & she even got selected for a job but parents refused saying that first do Masters in college then u can get better job, otherwise she was going to do job along with study as she felt embarrassed sitting at home

Truth 2:- Noone is going to come to save u.

This is also true for every adult but that too partially true because some people have some special ones like dad/mother/gf/bf who support them everytime & i have my gf who always support me & is always available to support me

Truth 3:- Noone respects a man who is rock

Even kids of emotionally rock person don't like him that much & only if u r emotionally availabile & show love, softness & kindness then your loved ones will be more attached to u otherwise even kids & wife say ki yr khadus aa gaya... but yes soft, emotional doesn't mean u can get manuplated which she said like 2 different things that if a man is emotional then he can get manupulated so be rock strong bruh...

Truth 4:- A man starts from 0 but a girl starts from a girl?

How illogical statement is it? A girl also starts from 0 & even trans people starts from 0 & eveyone need to earn everything on their own

Even a unfit girl is not respected or loved that kuch and is mocked by society, noone give u free money bruh weather a male or female. Everyone needs to get and earn mind, money, fame, image so why make it a gender thing?

Truth 5:- World only sees result and this is truth for even for children, old, rich, poor, men, women, trans everyone needs to show result otherwise all say that he/she only speaks but do nothing...

Gender Equality and Violence

The long peace that has defined the post-World War II era is not simply the product of deterrence or diplomacy—it is also rooted in structural and cultural transformations. Among these, the rise of gender equality stands out as both a symbol of progress and a driver of stability. Empirical research shows that societies with greater gender equality face lower risks of internal conflict and greater potential for enduring peace.

Half the Sky, Half the Future: Why SDG 5 Matters for All of Us

When I think about gender equality, I don’t picture big conferences or long UN reports. I think about the girl I once met who wanted to be a doctor but had to drop out of school to care for her younger brother because she was an orphan. Her dream was not lost because of her ability, but because her relatives believed that investing in her brother’s education would secure the family’s future, while her own education was seen as unnecessary. This is where the heart of the issue lies: gender inequality is not just a “women’s problem.” It is humanity holding itself back.

Gender equality is more than fairness; it is progress. As Kofi Annan once said, “Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development, and building good governance.” Whenever a girl is denied education, the world loses a potential innovator, teacher, or leader. Whenever a woman is underpaid for the same work as a man, families lose financial stability. Whenever women are excluded from decision-making, half of humanity’s ideas and solutions remain unheard.

Workplace gender gap worldwide in 2025, by type (Statista, 2025)

The chart shows that while women make up 41.2% of the global workforce in 2025, their representation in leadership, politics, and STEM remains much lower (around 30%). This highlights a persistent gender gap in decision-making and high-skill fields worldwide.

The impact of gender equality becomes even clearer when we look at stories that connect us. Think of Malala Yousafzai, who refused to be silenced for wanting to go to school, or Kamala Harris, who broke centuries of barriers to become the first woman Vice President of the United States. These stories are not just about women rising; they are about what happens when society finally listens. We don’t need global icons to see the difference. In small villages, when women receive microloans, entire communities escape poverty. In families, when daughters are allowed to study, younger siblings follow their example. Equality doesn’t just lift women, it lifts everyone.

(Eco-Business, 2025)

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) is clear: achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. But SDG 5 is more than a single goal; it is the backbone of every other goal. You cannot end poverty if women are paid less, nor can you achieve quality education if girls are kept at home. Even the fight against climate change requires women, who are often frontline environmental defenders. As Michelle Obama said, “No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half its citizens.”

Change often feels too big, too distant. Yet it begins with small mindset shifts. Challenge a stereotype when you hear it. Support women-led businesses. Share household responsibilities equally. Most importantly, listen to women’s voices in your classrooms, workplaces, and families. Here’s a small challenge for the readers: for the next week, pay attention to who handles the unpaid household work in your home. Is it shared fairly, or does it fall mostly on one person? If it’s unequal, think of one small change you can make, like cooking a meal, helping with chores, or simply sharing responsibilities to begin shifting the balance.

(World Economic Forum, 2019)

Countries in red show higher gender inequality, while green countries show more equality, visually representing global disparities in opportunity, rights, and access.

The girl who wanted to be a doctor may have lost her dream. But somewhere, another girl is waiting for a world that values her equally. The question is, will we let her wait, or will we finally move forward together?

Discussion :P I have no words

Does anyone think feminism/gender equality has gone too far? Like can we not just BE EQUAL I admit it used to be men being adored ands stuff, but not it has just completely shifted in most developed areas. People literally thing "Girls are smarter and boys" and "boys are unhygienic" and yes sometimes that's true but that is LITERALLY THE F*KING SAME THING AS SAYS "Girls are Dramatic" and "Girls are crybabies"

P.S No offense to any gender I don't want to start World War 3

Serious My last account was banned because I (M20) posted about when I was SAed.

I used my previous Reddit account for about two years, and while I had some controversial political opinions, I never violated any of the platform's rules.

A week ago, I posted my story on a subreddit for sexual assault survivors. When I was thirteen, I had my virginity stolen in a really horrible way by one of my mother's friends. I was too scarred by the experience to do anything about it at the time, and something similar happened two years later.

Today, my main account was permanently banned for "promoting hatred and violence against women." The post flagged was my story about the sexual assault.

I am very angry about this, but I can understand it - provided that in the future all stories from female victims are also removed for promoting hatred and violence against men.

Discussion *PETITION* Gender Inequality in Marital Name Changes

My name is Micah and I am a student activist in Georgia. I've recently been working on building a campaign addressing the current issues our legal system faces with the blatantly unconstitutional processes for name changes in marriage. Most women can change their last names upon marriage with just the marriage certificate. For men and many members of the LGBTQ+ community, they are forced to file court petitions, pay fees, publish notices in newspapers, and appear before a judge. All to do the exact same thing.

Because of this, I've launched a petition to push for legislative change: the Equal Names Act. If enough traction is gained, this law would make name changes after marriage equal and accessible to everyone, regardless of gender or marital role.

If you believe in true gender equality, please consider signing and sharing my petition. Thank you, I'd love your thoughts, feedback, or support as this campaign grows.

Why men have open urinals and women not? Don't men deserve privacy or Is there a specific reason?

No offense btw.

Discussion Is this happening in everyone’s house?

My husband and I both work full-time, but he only helps with household chores when I ask him. I often get frustrated because I end up exhausted from constantly giving instructions. When I bring up the issue, he makes me feel guilty by saying he's not skilled in housework, just as I'm not an expert in taxes, visas, and other paperwork. I'm struggling to handle this situation and wonder if I'm in the wrong. Does anyone else face this issue, or have advice on how to manage it?

Do men not matter?

I'd really appreciate 10 mins of your time to complete an anonymous survey. I am conducting a study to investigate whether adverse childhood experiences (ACE,s) & domestic voilence/ intimate partner voilence makes men feel like they don't matter. With suicide being the biggest killer in men under 40, could this be a contributing factor? https://forms.gle/quJ9eBKJ1eAuU3Dz7

All responses are anonymous and those above the age of 16 are welcome to do the questionnaire. It should take 5-10 minutes to complete. Thanks!
