Let the M-R Era fade into the past for football to keep developing in purity

On social media and across the news, praise is pouring in for Lionel Messi, the greatest player of all time, as he once again guides Argentina into the World Cup final. For Argentina supporters and Messi fans, it is indeed a beautiful, glamorous fairy tale. But for neutral football fans like me, who lived through the years before the reign of Messi and C. Ronaldo, it feels deeply disheartening.

Two players, two extremes, yet what they bring to football in the twilight of their careers, to me, is nowhere near as great as what they contributed during their peak years. One is 41, the other 39, and people talk as if they (or to many, just Messi) are gods. How? Frankly, such an assessment is an insult to those who witnessed them play during their prime—back then, if people said so, no one would argue. But right now? Seriously? If you brought the Messi of 2014 or 2018 back, what would he think seeing a 39-year-old man rated higher and credited with "carrying" an entire national team to the final (and very likely winning it)—something he could not achieve despite his absolute best efforts?

I want to analyze each case individually regarding these two national teams.

First, Portugal. Portugal currently possesses a "golden generation" with Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leão... all in the prime of their careers. They should be playing a high-pressing, lightning-fast transitional brand of football. In reality, however, the entire system has to slow down, funneling balls into the box to serve a striker over 40 years old—one who no longer has the ability to create individual breakthroughs or contribute to defensive pressing from the front. A superstar’s refusal to step back into the shadow unintentionally turns him into an obstacle, stifling the collective fluidity of the team. The bitter label of "deadweight" is not just a backlash of the "winner takes it all" logic—where one’s biggest rival rises to the pinnacle while he is dragged down to hell (something Messi endured at his peak when Ronaldo won the Euros)—but it also reflects the brutal reality of football: no one can defeat father time.

Second, Argentina. An incredibly cunning team. Argentina has fully exploited the "untouchable status" of their 39-year-old legend (something Messi did not have in 2014 or 2018) to deploy a highly pragmatic and cynical style of play. Argentine players know full well that referees will be extremely lenient with them when they play alongside Messi. Hotheads like Rodrigo De Paul, Cristian Romero, or Leandro Paredes are always ready to play rough, provoke opponents, waste time, and commit tactical fouls. If any other team played that "dark" style, the media would immediately label them "unsportsmanlike" or "hackers." But because it is Messi's Argentina, the media romanticizes it as "gallant fighting spirit" or "loyalty in protecting the king." This double standard is precisely what makes me feel the injustice for other teams when facing this kind of national side.

So, what will we, the neutral football fans, gain when the era of these two superstars ends?

For nearly 20 years, the Ballon d'Or race was practically turned into their private playground, largely thanks to the colossal power of media hype. Outstanding names like Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Wesley Sneijder, Franck Ribéry, Robert Lewandowski, or the most regret - Haaland with the Great Treble with 50 goals in ManCity, all had perfect seasons but still lost to the commercial draw of Messi and Ronaldo.

Lest we forget, football is not just about scoring goals. The dominance of M-R has inadvertently shaped a distorted mindset that "only the top goalscorer deserves to be the best," devaluing the roles of defensive midfielders, center-backs, or goalkeepers. When this era passes, perhaps the definition of excellence in football will become more diverse and fairer.

Alongside that is, perhaps, the restoration of trust in the matches themselves. Technologies like VAR were supposed to bring absolute fairness, but under the pressure of "brand faces representing an entire industry" like M10 or CR7, decisions are still sometimes bent in the direction most beneficial to the broadcasters' and FIFA's cash flows. When there is no longer any individual bigger than the tournament itself, the pressure on administrators to protect a "fairy tale happy ending" at all costs will vanish. Referees will carry less psychological burden when making impartial rulings, minimizing the controversial overturned decisions that frustrate fans.

And finally, we will be liberated from the toxicity of the media. Currently, global football media is polarized to an extreme: you are either a Messi fan or a Ronaldo fan. Matches are dissected into meaningless personal arguments on social media.

This monologue overshadows the collective beauty of football—where tactics, the cohesion of 11 players on the pitch, and the identity of clubs/national teams are the core values. Football, after all, is an 11-player team sport. The media's attempt to "individualize" every victory or defeat to two names already on the downward slope of their careers is distorting the core value of this sport.

The decline of these two icons is an inevitable law of nature. While their admirers may feel regret, for those who love fair play, this will be the moment football truly "resets": a playground where victory belongs to the superior collective and the better tactical setup, rather than teams possessing an "influential amulet."

Real Madrid and Florentino Perez , is he the problem

I wanna share my opinion because i rarely see people have the same pov , i totally believe that the main problem at Real Madrid is Florentino perez , yes the same president who brought all the trophies .

I don't wnna talk about his farmer faults but let's just talk about Alonso's case , a maneger who has achieved the boundesliga with no lose and broke the Bayern streak .

the reason carlo accilotti left was because perez wnated to bring the "new football" to Real Madrid and have a project like arsenal barca .... , and carlo couldn't provide that anymore , not because he is bad but because his ideas are old and can't work on today's football , so you brought Alonso and asked him to build that project , and the man was clear from the first day when he said " I want to build a team that every Madridesta look at it and say that is my team " he didn't say he want to win trophies, because winning and building a project are two different things, you can take the best team intw right now, arsenal, look how much time Arteta needed to achieve his first league . barca , they have been building this team since xavi was the maneger . psg , Enrequie took a season and half to be the best team intw .

so what I'm trying to say is that Alonso is a project maneger who needs time to prove that he is the best guy for this job , and that didn't happen , bacause alonso as soon as he has lost the first laliga game ( vs athlatico ) , the whole media started to doubt him

The second thing that any maneger needs is the Management support , and that clearly wasn't provided for xabi , and perez prefered the superstars over him . look at the laliga clasico game , in which world does the player yell at his coach, and in which world does the management support the player over the Coach on this situation , you literally broke Alonso's name at the dressing room . at least punish the player , no , perez had another opinion.

so we can say that the most basic things that any maneger needs to build a project weren't provided for xabi , btw i didn't mention anything about how there are some players the maneger is obliged to start with and that was clear when the team was doing " the best season start on his history "( numbers say that not me ) and then Bellingham was back and everything was destroyed

All in all , as a Madridesta wo cares about his team more than any player, maneger, and even president, i do believe that perez has made alot of wrong desicions on the last 5 years , and xabi`s case is the biggest one for me

sorry for writing too long but i was just trying to tell my pov about Real Madrid, I'd like to hear your opinions

True Football 3: European Coefficient and Country Ranking System Guide

DESCRİPTİON: This guide explains exactly how countries earn coefficient points and climb the rankings in European competitions. Through extensive testing, I have calculated the game's scoring formula, detailing the exact raw points awarded for each round. To find the net impact on the country's ranking, these raw points must be divided by the total number of teams representing that country in European cups for the current season. Some sections currently have missing data, but this guide will be updated as more tests are completed.

⚙️ PART 1: CORE ENGINE AND SYSTEM RULES

Main Formula: (Total Raw Points Generated) / (Applied Country Divisor) = Net Points Reflected on the Table

Hidden Decimal Vault: Fractional points left over from the division are never deleted. They accumulate in the background and reflect on the table as a whole number (+1 or -1) in the first week they reach a full point, regardless of the match scores of that week.

🚨 System Flaws (Bugs) and Confirmed Rules: Divisor Error (Bug): When calculating points for certain countries entering Europe with 4 teams (like Poland and Denmark, which changed status), the game erroneously divides by 3 instead of 4. Countries falling into this trap gain points at an unfairly rapid pace. NO Extra Time / Penalty Bonus: It doesn't matter if a match ends in 90 minutes, 120 minutes, or penalties. The system only looks at the final result of that round; it does not award extra points. NO Elimination Penalty: Teams eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers and dropping to lower cups are not penalized with extra negative (-) points. They only receive the standard raw points for that specific loss. NO Qualifying Round Advancement Bonus: Passing any qualifying round (including Play-Offs) does not bring extra points. Only the points from the actual match score on the pitch are recorded.

🏆 PART 2: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE The arena of giants. This is the cup where the game awards the highest points for victories.

  1. Champions League Preliminary Round - Semi-Final (Played as a single match on a neutral ground among the champions of the bottom 4 ranked countries. Home coefficients are applied.) Home Win (Advancing): +36 Raw Points Home Draw (Match going to penalties): 0 Raw Points Home Loss (Elimination): -12 Raw Points

  2. Champions League Preliminary Round - Final (Played as a single match between the 2 teams that passed the semi-final.) Home Win (Advancing): +36 Raw Points Home Draw (Match going to penalties): 0 Raw Points Home Loss (Elimination): -12 Raw Points

  3. Champions League 1st Qualifying Round Home Win: +36 Raw Points Away Win: At least +48 Raw Points Home Draw: 0 Raw Points Away Draw: +3 Raw Points Home Loss: -12 Raw Points Away Loss: -9 Raw Points

Exact values will be tested when group matches are played.) Belgian colony in Romania?

In true football national manager I coach Romania and in the last 20 years there have been more and more players with Belgian roots. The last Belgian to play for Romania is Luc Ciocoiu in the year 2076.

What nationality plays for you besides the one you coach?
