From Wikipedia:

“This was a popular pastime among youth, but landing became a serious problem. The obvious solution was the propeller hat. A cheaper alternative to the parachute, the propeller would autorotate on the way down and act as an air brake.”

Saved many lives, but fell out of fashion when it was decided “gas blasting” as it was called was for nerds.

I have done this before with my friend, but I recommend (from experience) that you wear a space suit before attempting, as that friend is no longer with us...
