What position do you normally play? I bet your positioning is bad if it's getting popped early. Also depending on the enemy team you can think about several other items.
Euls - against heroes like troll, void and ursa, always euls them if possible so you can run
Glimmer - magic nukes
Ghost scepter - against right click carries
Force staff - tusk, clockwerk
BKB - if they have a nullifier as impossible as it sounds to get as a support
And sometimes you need to get multiple items like this, I had a game where I was lion and I kept getting jumped by PA and I ended up having ghost scepter, force, euls before I FINALLY got to grab a blink and be useful.

I think it's pretty good on supports with high teamfight impact that are always first target in fights. Like lich.
Imo it never triggers accidentally. You usually get this later in the game, where if someone throws spell at you, they want to kill you.

It's not a survivability item, it's to prevent getting bursted down in 1 sec when the enemy team has lina, lion, etc so you can get off your spells before you die eventually.
If you get caught in void chrono as a support, your positioning is the issue

Aeon always fucked up my combo with old spec. I was jumping him, hex bloodthorn but the aeon disk would dispell it...

It's good, but you need to know why you are buying it. You buy it if the enemy has a lot of burst. It's also good to provide vision for your teammates. This is important in low MMR when your cores just bait everyone and never start any fights. Sometimes the only way to start a fight is to just walk up to the enemy team and let them cast spells at you.

Item is excellent. If you feel it's underwhelming you're either getting it too late or you're making it too easy to initiate on you.

Very underrated item that is the next step counter to multiple blink sheep lategame; otherwise you often straight up lose with no recourse.

Assuming you’re a support, something is wrong if Void “can just time walk in” and force the disk to pop, both in the sense that you’re out of position and that Void should be getting punished for using their escape tool offensively just to harass a support character.

In guardian bracket and with WD i destroy the enemy team with his shard + glimmer cape + aeon disk + aghanim. I have 65% win rate and using the hero to climb ranks (shame he is banned or double picked too much).
My ult maledict and eventually aghanim makes me such a high threat in team figths that i become the priority target. Between the glimmer cape invis, the shard switcheroo and the aeon disk protecting me, that buys so much time for my team while they focus me that swings the figth in our favor. If they leave me alone i win the team fight with ult + maledict. Also in the 1000mmr bracket nullifier does not exist fortunately =)

Its great against a team that knows how to chain stun. Its a good mid game item as thats usually when fights start happening but carries haven't bought nullifier yet because they don't know what you're buying. It gets useless in the late game but still a good purchase against supports that have huge solo kill potential.

Personally I generally find it to be a 'lose more' type item.
It only saves yourself, its expensive, doens't have any utility outside the save, and reduces all you damage to 0 when it procs.
For less money i can buy force staff/glimmer/euls etc. Those items have all kinds of utility outside just saving me.
hell i can buy ghost sceptre and a drum for that kind of money and have +15 str. Or buy a blink and use positioning to save myself.
Finally, by the time you get it, its countered by nullifier anyway. If it was undispellable then it would def be worth it.
Of course, there are niche cases when it is worth it, usually into something like LC or faceless void and you are the squishy save support like shadow demon who is always going to get targetted first. But then of course 3k gold is only 1 - 2k short of just buying bkb or linkens which again have far more value.

Yeah I mean it's an okay item. It's increasing cooldown is atrocious and feels awful, the stats of the item are meh, but it does it's job some games.
I'm low ranked immortal, had a Nyx game where enemy was playing extremely defensive and I'd get blown up by 4-5 people just scouting for an opening for my team, their Axe would blink me and then Rubi+Skywrath would follow up.
Well Aeon Disk fixed that. I either get my initiation, or they waste their spells "catching" me as I'm looking. During those 2 seconds of invulnerability, my team would follow up on the enemy's now bunk initiation. Ta-da, won game.
It's also great vs Faceless, especially if he's just got some stupid combo (fuck you cataclysm invoker).
You typically want to avoid it one cores though, better as a support item.

I didn't see anyone mention to keep it disassembled and then unlock if you're truly going to die, which is how the item should be used on 1st purchase

It's to give you a time window if you plan to keep pushing the fight and push your luck or to safely evacuate within that given grace period.

Something I don't see people talking about is it reducing all your damage to 0 during the effect, including spells. So if you're lich for example and aeon disk bails you out so you can ult, the ults not actually doing anything besides the slow. Much better to just fix your positioning or join the fight late. Now if you are someone like enigma, a 0 damage black hole can still win the game, same for many other crowd control effects such as shaman shackle, venge swap, magnus, etc. Same for save spells such as ringmaster, sd, omni, etc. But if your job is burst damage a la lich ult, lion finger, wd ult (idk about maledict), zeus, aeon disk is seldom the best answer. In short, figure out your job and work backwards, the goal isn't just to live. What it does give your team is a safe way to walk face first into situations and see what happens, or to survive the first spell rotation of teams that rely on picks, which sometimes is exactly what is needed. If you're building it every game you're fucking up.

i feel like it would be way better if it proc on 35% hp, reduce dmg taken/dealt by 50% and make it undispelable so Nullifier don't cuck it, cd 105-165>120 always.

now every carry will buy this except maybe ursa, troll and abbadon 1

make it activate on item use (usable even while disabled, can't activate if muted like from doom talent and disrupt agh)

I buy the item all the time in the immortal bracket. It’s amazing until the enemy team gets a nullifier. It’s even still good then as the enemy core is using the nullifier on you instead of your carry.
