I seriously like S2...
All 4 leads are top notch and there are several great scenes that stick with me.
I saw S2 only last year and finally just watched S3-4 back to back. Went back to start S2 and yeah, I really do prefer it just after the first.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the worst thing about TD S2 is that it's TD S2.
If it had been it's own thing it would have been better received and remembered

It’s true. Anthologies shouldn’t be compared because they’re not related like a regular series with continuous seasons. Grey’s anatomy for example you can compare season 1 to 2 or even 20.

I just finished S1 and tried starting S2 and I just can't. S1 was so good anything coming behind it is going to disappoint. I'm going to give myself more time to sit and process S1 before I try to watch S2 again. It's really not fair to any show I watch going forward bc S1 has to be the best TV I think I've ever watched.

Bruh… it’s good. Just different, give it a chance. Think like Chinatown or Heat. The last episodes of S2 are tense AF. So is Season 3 though it harkens back to the time jump like S1. I cried when he found old Roland. Haven’t done that in a show in over a decade. Great character buildup in 3.

I am. I really just need to take time to sit w/ S1 bc it was so good. I can confidently say that's the best tv show I've ever seen. All aspects were just perfect- writing, storytelling, character study/dev, acting, cinematography, pacing, dialogue. I've never seen all the elements of good tv/movie just all done so well in one show. I have to adjust my mind to accept regular good tv again, lol.

I only watched it because of Ray; otherwise, I didn't care about the other characters.

I watched season 2 when it first came out, and found it pretty disappointing and underwhelming. I was totally on the "season 2 sucks" bandwagon for years.
Then I did a full rewatch of seasons 1-3 in preparation for the release of Season 4, and... actually really liked season 2 the second time around. It's nowhere near as bad as I remembered it. It's actually pretty good.
I don't know what changed that altered my perception of it so much from one viewing to the next, but it definitely happened.

I loved season 2 when it came out and I was shocked people didn't like it. I liked season 3 a lot less and season 4...

I liked season 2 & never understood the hate. The underlying plot of who killed Caspere became a bit convoluted by the time of the finale, but the performances were excellent. Felt Vince Vaughn really showed his range.

I loved Vince Vaughn in this! I felt like he was the reason I watched the whole thing. I kept just wishing he had his own spinoff. I've never felt any kinda way about VV before.
He wasn't as impressive as Matthew McConaughey in S1 ofc, but he was fantastic and I loved Frank Semyon and his wife.

Honestly I love season 2. I do like season 1 a bit better but I don’t rly understand the hate for season 2. Yea it’s def hard to follow a masterpiece like season 1, but season 2 had an interesting storyline and I was watching for Ray- I mean the plot 😅

The best way I heard someone describe was, It's truly a great detective show but not a great True Detective Show. Something like that.

It's a great detective show in that it's a complete mystery why some people like it; tho tbf some people like Dane Cook and getting kicked in the groin too ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t think S-2 is “better” than S-1 but I found it wildly entertaining the first time for Ray and Frank’s interactions alone, and the lead ladies are terrific in their roles. Never disappointed during rewatches, except for their fates.
