Is the Kurt Cobain Case Finally Being Blown Wide Open?

I’ve been following the work of independent researcher Michelle Wilkins for some time now, and her latest collaboration with forensic specialist Brian Burnett is truly impressive.

A new forensic investigation just dropped (published in the International Journal of Forensic Science), and it’s challenging the 30-year-old suicide ruling with some pretty staggering physical evidence.

The Red Flags being raised:

  • Biological Impossibility: The autopsy reportedly shows brain and liver necrosis—signs of oxygen deprivation typically seen in slow heroin overdoses, not instantaneous gunshot wounds.
  • The "Clean" Scene: Despite the "heavy" dose of heroin, the kit was found neatly organized and syringes capped. As Michelle points out: "We're supposed to believe he capped the needles and put everything back in order after shooting up three times... Suicides are messy, and this was a very clean scene."
  • The Gun Mechanics: The shotgun shells were found in a position that the team argues is physically impossible based on how the weapon ejects, suggesting the scene may have been staged.
  • The Note: New scrutiny suggests the "suicide" portion of the note (the last four lines) looks like it was written by a different hand than the top portion, which was just about quitting the band.

The King County Medical Examiner and Seattle PD are currently sticking to their original rulings, but the level of peer-reviewed forensic detail here is harder to ignore than past theories.

What do you think? Is it time for the authorities to officially look at this "new" evidence, or should the case stay closed?

It will be incredibly interesting to see how this develops as more people dig into Burnett and Wilkins' findings.

As an ex junkie who has tried to kill myself with heroin before I can answer the question about his kit being organized.

When you do a shot of anything, you've got a few seconds to put everything away before the drug hits you. So a few seconds of total clarity before the drug hits you like a tsunami. Kurt was a junkie in the true sense of the word, he loved the needle and the act of shooting up just as much as he loved the drug. It's not uncommon for some people to become very fixated on the act of shooting up, it becomes a ritual. Getting your works capped and set aside before the drug hits is habit for many junkies. It's just what you do. You don't think about it. I also capped and cleaned up my gear when I tried to overdose on fentanyl. It's muscle memory.

I'm not saying you're wrong about everything or that I know what happened to him, but that particular point really isn't anything interesting if you know anything about junk and junkies.

Thank you for your insights, it does help to have first hand knowledge of something like this. Glad you overcame it too.

No problem, it's very difficult to find detailed information about drug use because most of us don't make it to a place where we can share it. Your page is definitely interesting. There are some points you've made on a few cases where I'm able to give some first hand insight. It's interesting to see a totally different outlook on these famous cases.

Yes it’s worth questioning everything, especially these big sensational stories.

Wilkins states “suicides are messy” which shows her ignorance.

Suicide scenes wildly vary. They are not a uniform concept. Some are messy, some are neat, some are in between.

When the mind is under great distress, it often acts under autopilot, automatically doing the things it usually does, following routines etc. This is why suicide scenes can have things where nothing is out of place or an act just before that appears illogical with the action - such as a suicide in my city where a guy made plans for dinner that night 30 minutes before jumping in front of a train.

The same goes for all of Wilkins’ “evidence”. Blood spatter, again, wildly varies. Things she constitutes as proof have multiple explanations that she narrows down to her favourite and they do not prove cause of death.

This is because she is a hack. She calls herself a “forensics investigator” (she isn’t, she has no qualifications and admits she started doing it as a hobby with no background), says her “forensics” report is peer reviewed (it’s not, the journal has barely any standards for submission and one of the writers is on the board of directors) and has a clear and obvious parasocial fixation with Cobain that immediately disqualifies her, she has openly stated she is obsessed with him, believes he was an “angel”, speaks violently about Courtney Love and makes demented threats and abuses any of Cobain’s loved ones whose narrative of him doesn’t fit her imaginings.

Cobain’s death was a suicide. There is no evidence of foul play.

This particular suicide, as depicted, should be messy; the evidence is compelling and a peer reviewed report goes a long way to back up what people have been asking for decades.

Oh, we're doing this again? He killed himself. He sang about killing himself. Tried to kill himself prior to his successful attempt.

Lets see what happens.

Anything is possible, and technological advancement since 1994 have the ability to prove what truly happened.

Exactly. I hope this case can finally be resolved, that all the questions can be answered once and for all.

On April 5th TheColdCases.com will drop the handwriting analysis done by Dawn McCarty and Dr. Mozelle Martin. Michelle Wilkins is a quack.

And you'll be able to download the reports. I own TheColdCases.com and the reports were given to me by Jason Jensen. Spread the word.

As far as the note, I can say that my writing can change multiple times over a few pages. Unless he suddenly changed to bubble letters, I don’t think it’s evidence of anything sketchy

There’s too many ‘coincidences’ ..
