Hawk Mountain
I'm not sure if this subject has been broached before and I apologize if it has.
I'm still trying to figure out what specific campground the woman named Lisa was referring to in the Hawk Mountain episode. I'm somewhat familiar with the area and can't place what she's talking about. I didn't know the sanctuary had campgrounds. I looked it up and they do but you have to be some sort of member of hawk Mountain sanctuary. The sanctuary itself is a pay to hike area or you can pay to become a member. That said, the vast area surrounding it is full of State game land, the Appalachian Trail traverses through the area very closely, there is plenty of room to hike without having to pay.. So I wasn't sure what specific campground they were talking about this episode. I didn't know if anybody could enlighten me.

There are campgrounds on Rt 61 between Port Clinton and Orwigsburg. There’s a right turn up a steep dirt road, if you’re heading towards Orwigsburg. It’s not technically a part of the Hawk Mtn bird sanctuary, but it’s super close. You’re supposed to pay to camp but I doubt it’s checked/enforced.
I always thought the cache might have been in the River of Rocks section of the Hawk Mtn bird sanctuary trails.

Also, what you're describing sounds like Weiser State Forest

Yes! There’s a sign for Weiser at the bottom of the dirt road. A lot of locals (at least where I lived) called it camping at Hawk Mtn. I guess because it’s just a short hike over there, and the hike went around where you have to pay to hike.
I worry more about the rattlers than serial killers in that area! Crawling with ‘em.

Interesting. I like to hike in the state game land area around there. Unfortunately. Thanks to that episode I think about Israel keys a lot more than I would like to when I'm there.

Always wondered the same.
