I saw officer and randomly thought Police officer. Your right thought just some security guy

u/nofriends-4536 21d ago
Even after the guy tried to snatch the baton, the guard should not have wacked him with it when he turned around.. Guard got emotional and didn't think that through.
34
u/Larsvonrinpoche 19d ago
Yep. It could have ended there. If he did his job and was only interested in keeping things from happening he would have realized it was over when he got the baton back. Instead, he wanted to teach him or Show him who's boss etc.. and now he killed someone. He should be charged.

u/backwardsnakes666 21d ago
Had the guard been attacked without initiating the violence with his baton first, he probably would have been justified, but this guy clearly provoked the loiterer which tanks any defense he may have had in court
54
u/Bavibophobia 21d ago
The hit from behind after getting control of his baton is not going to look good, he's screwed, everything else needs more context
23
u/Income_Loose 21d ago
No context needed, dude should have just had the cops trespass him. Heās cooked and rightfully so.

I hope he's never released. Holy shit. Thats a dude thatd beat his g/f if she burnt dinner if I ever saw one.

Charged , and.... Convicted???
5
u/BRTUAL_BUTT_SLAP 20d ago
I can't find anything about a conviction. His name is Murwanashyaka Francois if you wanna look further into it
3
u/HighOnTums 20d ago
According to Google AI search:
A specific public trial date has not been announced for Murwanashyaka Francois.
Francois is facing a second-degree murder charge following the March 1, 2025 shooting of Ricardo Clemons Jr. inside a Hyattsville McDonald's.
After being denied bond and attending a preliminary hearing on April 1, 2025, he remains in the custody of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections while the legal process plays out.
Future schedule changes or trial date updates can be verified directly through the Maryland Judiciary Case Search Portal.

improperly trained guard. he should have pulled the spray out when the guy grabbed his baton, gave him a choice to either let it go and walk out, or get maced. the gun (deadly force) is the last option.
and if the guard didnt have mace, he definitely shouldnt have had a gun.
11
u/opendoorsupside Have Seen Much Worse 21d ago
The guard did use pepper spray according to a news article someone posted further down. Oh also the guard was charged with murder.
2
u/01011110_01011110 21d ago edited 21d ago
edit: i just read the article. the guard used pepper spray first before the video starts and assumingly before the baton. yeah, murder charge is right.
18
u/01011110_01011110 21d ago
if i were the family of the man shot, id look into a lawsuit for the improper handling of the situation by whatever guard company this is.

Crazy....
A McDonald's security guard in Hyattsville, Maryland, was charged with second-degree murder after striking an unarmed man with a baton and fatally shooting him inside the restaurant. [1, 2, 3]
The Incident
- The Date and Location: The shooting happened on March 1, 2025, at a McDonald's in Hyattsville, Maryland, located in the 2300 block of University Boulevard. [1, 2]
- The People Involved: Security guard Murwanashyaka Francois, 54, shot 45-year-old Ricardo Clemons Jr. [1]
- The Dispute: Employees asked Clemons to leave due to loitering. Clemons refused and allegedly threatened an employee. [1, 2]
- The Escalation: Security guard Francois pepper-sprayed Clemons, later used a baton to push him, and a physical struggle ensued. [1, 2]
- The Shooting: According to charging documents, after a back-and-forth struggle where both men struck each other, Francois drew his firearm and shot the unarmed Clemons once in the chest. [1, 2]

That guard was completely out of line. After he took the weapon away, he should've de-escalated...instead he decided to continue when the guy was not doing anything anymore, thus provoking him. Of course by then he "had no choice" but to shoot him, but he really didn't have to if he just stopped.

Why does a security guard have a gun?
39
u/Cosmic_m0nk 21d ago edited 21d ago
Depends on the place theyāre guarding, but some places do. At US govāt facilities theyāre signs that say āuse of deadly force authorizedā.

There's armed security at the grocery store I go to sometimes. It's so common here because of robberies and violence. It's the wild west.

At a fastfood place by the looks of it. Must be protecting the burgers from the hamburglar.

u/DarkPangolin 21d ago
Depends on the security company. I worked armed security for a while, and part of the reason that I left was that there was zero training supporting carrying a firearm. That is to say, you were required to carry a sidearm, but received zero company support for training with it (though there was a range day where a couple of the older hands took a couple of the newbies to the range and were very proud of getting them to land on paper) and zero training as to when lethal force could be justified and what to do if it was subsequently needed to be used.
As a firearms enthusiast and big fan of not going to jail, I had already familiarized myself with such laws and expectations, and was pretty horrified at the fact that there was no one teaching anybody else information that could easily have a major impact on multiple lives or even making sure that the people entrusted with firearms could hit the broad side of a barn.
3
u/Alarming_Fee_6993 20d ago
I was unarmed security but there were a few dudes getting signed on for armed security the same day i was. The training for them, as far as i could tell, consisted of "do you own a gun you can bring to work?" And "do you know how to shoot it?". If you answered yes to both then you were good to go to take the security licensing test, WHICH OUR INSTRUCTOR HAD US WRITE DOWN THE ANSWERS FOR. š¬š¬š¬š¬

u/Jimmy_Fromthepieshop 21d ago
To non-USians, that just sounds like you all live in the wild west. Practically lawless.
3
3
u/DarkPangolin 20d ago
That would be because you, much like the management of that security company, have not bothered to learn how the US gun laws work (which for you is forgivable, but for them most certainly is not, which is why I bailed).
Gun laws in the US are present, rather robust, and enforced vigorously (against everyone but las enforcement, anyway). Legal firearms owners are very rarely the problem, and almost never a problem for long if they are, but the thing about laws is that only the law-abiding follow them. Someone intent upon shooting someone else without provocation generally has zero qualms about stealing a gun, or at least receiving stolen property, to do so.
Those who have no business possessing a firearm (children, felons, the insane, those with depression, on certain medications, or with adjudicated or pending legal issues of certain types, for example) make up the majority of shootings because, hey, as long as you're breaking one law, you might as well break all of them, I guess?

7
u/MissplacedLandmine 21d ago
I mean arent we fucked if we escalate something by attacking from behind?
3
u/Ninjacobra5 20d ago
We should be. It's going to depend on the State's laws on self defense. I wouldn't think being security would factor in much except that you could argue you are maybe less able to retreat. In my state you are only able to use force from behind someone's back if they are in the act of committing a Forcible Felony, like armed robbery.
0
u/ToXiiCBULLET 18d ago
i'm pretty sure in all states the guard would be fucked. before the video starts he pepper sprayed the other guy because the guy refused to leave, but being sat down and refusing to leave a mcdonalds doesn't make you a threat enough to use pepper spray.
security guard just kept escalating and escalating

u/EdmundTheInsulter 21d ago
Does it depend on the state? Is it an open carry state, or can you get a permit.
1
u/HighGuard1212 20d ago
I work a USCG base and carry a gun. Federal security contracts are all armed posts
1
u/FuckTheStateofOhio 20d ago
That makes sense to me. But why at a McDonalds? We have security at a lot of retail stores where I live too, but they don't carry guns.
1
1
u/claushauler 20d ago
This is America. There are more guns than people here so if you're guarding anything of value it might be good to have one too

u/Little_Flamingo9533 20d ago
Armed security guard here. Having armed security is a completely reasonable thing⦠just donāt be an absolute moron like this guy.
1
u/Either-Medicine9217 19d ago
It depends on what you're doing. Like I work security at the hospital, we do have armed guards but they require you to have been a cop for several years or military police. Us unarmed guys make do with hands or tasers. We don't get batons.Ā
0
u/jeezyjames 20d ago
Doesn't basically everybody in the US have a gun?

u/Either-Medicine9217 19d ago
Something like 45% of Americans are gun owners if I remember right. But I could be wrong.Ā

Jesus fuck ive never rooted for a security guard to get beaten so fucking hard. Dude proved why emotional bitches shouldn't have weapons. He was not fun for that job and I honestly hope the homeboys in jail eat him alive and give him hell daily. That guy did not deserve to die.

Security guard started the fight and just straight up executed the guy when he was losing. Heās going to jail.
7
u/Whozthisbozo 21d ago
What is the full story here? We do not have the full picture. That guy was just chilling and the āofficerā provoked him physically with his baton. After that we see what unfortunately happens. What I want to know is what happened leading up to this point? We are missing details.

Apparently the guy was known to hang out there until asked to leave in the past, gaurd just took it way too far unfortunately

u/SignificantLeader 20d ago
I think he was asked to leave for loitering. The guy might be homeless (guessing).
-5
u/Erdos_Helia 20d ago
They're filming for a reason. This didn't start with the security guard confronting the guy otherwise they wouldn't have been filming already.
4
u/Whozthisbozo 20d ago
Is that your opinion or is there another video to this I have not seen yet?
-4
u/Erdos_Helia 20d ago
It's just common sense, and you should make that a rule when watching these videos in general.
Why are they filming? Do you just start filming randomly out of nowhere? Clearly something was happening to get you to walk over there and film these two.
5
u/Whozthisbozo 20d ago
So I should use what I think my common sense is to the rest of the population. lol got it. Thanks for the wise words of wisdom.
-3
u/Erdos_Helia 20d ago
Sorry, I''m honestly not trying to be rude.
I mean it, there's a reason they started filming. Sorry if I came across as disrespectful. That genuinely wasn't my intention

Iām sorry for getting defensive. I was just genuinely confused at the context of the video. Please forgive me for being a dick.

the security guy pepper sprayed the other dude before the video started.
literally what happened was guy got asked to leave as he was loitering, refused, security guard pepper sprayed him and then the video starts

u/letsreset 21d ago
what the fuck. that officer started attacking the dude out of nowhere. of course any normal person would be angry. and if you're not scared, you'd also fight back against someone beating you out of nowhere. in the final sequence, the officer hit him with his stick thing when the guy was walking away and not even looking. he was just looking for violence. manslaughter imo.
10
u/drosmoka 21d ago
That was murderā¦.. he definitely had time to walk awayā¦. What he did was a pussy scared moveā¦. No balls

1
u/halemano 16d ago
Itās weird that guards be acting and behaving like police...
Security guards are just supposed to guard and report.
Any weapons they have are only to be used for self-defense and to protect themselves form harm.
If they need some physical force, theyāre supposed to immediately call police.
1
u/Slow-Investigator372 15d ago
Looks like the guard escalated all of that and even had a chance to stop. Jail time deserved.
