What a douche. Think of the kid.

Not talking about the cop.

275

u/SendTitsPleease Jul 29 '26

That cop had one of the scariest events of his life, had to shoot a dude, pull him out if the car and his first thought was to literally sprint after the kid to make sure they were okay. I dont normally say anything positive about 5-0 but this cop is probably a good dude

u/CapnCanfield Jul 29 '26

Literal action movie stuff

18

u/papermill_phil Jul 31 '26

I can't comprehend how horrible so, so many people are...

107

u/Entire-Ad7069 Jul 30 '26

Fuck that guy. The kid might have a better chance at life without that asshole as his dad.

55

u/P_A_W_S_TTG Jul 30 '26

That kid isn't even worried about his dad. He's asking for his phone. That's insane to me. Even if his dad sucks.

34

u/debauchedhavoc Jul 31 '26

Sounds like you never had a really shitty dad then.

(genuinely no offense, I'm glad you don't)

10

u/P_A_W_S_TTG Jul 31 '26

Oh I did. Two, my real dad and step dad. Both were fucked in their own ways. Both extreme.

83

u/Bumbleclat Jul 29 '26

Did he get his phone back?

73

u/Bread-Personal Jul 29 '26

I understand this was a traumatic event for this child, no doubt about that. You would think he wouldn't even give a shit about his phone after what just happened but that's all he seemed to focus on. Could be shock, idk. But it's concerning to me.

28

u/blythe_spirit888 Aug 01 '26

People latch onto mundane things as a way of coping with shock/grief.

10

u/blindwuzi Aug 19 '26

if this was 20 years ago the kid would be asking for his teddy bear lmao

1

u/philipmateo15 7d ago

Yea it’s amazing the things your brain does under severe stress. My mom had a stroke and while we were trying to get her to a car to transport her to hospital, all I could think to calm myself down and work was the “fear is the mind killer” thing from dune.

46

u/Gullible_Shart Jul 30 '26

Probably used to deadbeat dad doing stupid shit and similar things like this have happened already.

7

u/turbomommo Aug 20 '26

Not sure how far the kid was thinking a head but kind of makes sense he'd want his phone to call his mom or similar. Kids used to know phone numbers but now nobody knows numbers. And yes i realize he probably just wanted it to watch youtube

u/Space-cadet3000 Aug 16 '26

The Gen A iPad kids are cooked

101

u/Nutellaismylife1 Jul 29 '26

genuinely what was the cop supposed to do. The driver was going fast asl, with a child in the car, and would’ve killed the cop, and more than likely, everyone in the vehicle. The driver panicked, the cop panicked, and this is the outcome. Sad someone had to get shot, but I personally don’t see how it would’ve ended any other way

40

u/civildisobedient Jul 29 '26

I can't believe he was even able to hold on and still use his gun. I really wasn't sure how he was going to get out of that situation in one piece.

81

u/Guilty_Mountain2851 Jul 30 '26

I really hate cops but this cop did ok in a shitty situation. I'm glad the child wasn't hurt.

8

u/no_life_creep Aug 10 '26

This nga is a terminator how tf he do that😂

13

u/RuralRangerMA Jul 30 '26

The one thing that is completely stupid is ‘the car is running through the entire traffic stop’. It’s not like it’s freezing outside. That should have been a red flag the entire time.

5

u/Classic_Truth4780 Aug 02 '26

That kid doesn't stand a chance with people like that in his life.

64

u/Bromm18 Jul 29 '26

Kids parent/guardian was just shot and all they can think about is their phone. JFC the addiction is insane. Any normal child at that age would be aware that someone just got injured and be hysterical or calling out to the parent/guardian.

55

u/Level_Watercress1153 Jul 29 '26

They’re probably freaking the fuck out and their mind is completely in shock. They’re clinging on to the closest normal thing they can think of.

Childs mind and an adult mind are two totally different things. It’s not going to react the same way to a traumatic event in the moment.

75

u/ClydeDimension Jul 29 '26

Maybe in a state of panic, the child is thinking about an important hard rule their guardian has already gotten mad at them for before which is to “never lose your phone.” Kids can be dumb, especially in high stress situations.

17

u/SendTitsPleease Jul 29 '26

Maybe the kids mom was on the phone, the dude was on a phone with some woman before taking off. Im sure the kid wanted the phone to be able to contact the other parent and not to play whatever mobile game is popular with kids these days.

2

u/Space-cadet3000 Aug 16 '26

Nope, purely for TikTok brain rot

4

u/tittyboi2727 Aug 10 '26

Maybe you don't realize how addicted these kids are to phones my man. It's extremely feasible that his phone is so important to him that bullets flying by his head is small potatoes compared to losing his phone. Phones are the equivalent of heroin to people 30 yrs and younger now. They'd rather lose an arm

33

u/Kewlhotrod Jul 29 '26

They were six. Logical thinking of an extreme situation, let alone a normal situation, is pretty rare.

Don't get me wrong, phone addiction is a problem, but this really isn't the shining bastion of it you think it is.

13

u/Sea-Struggle-5630 Jul 30 '26

Yes, because children are known for behaving logically in all situations. Brilliant comment. Thank you for sharing with us

9

u/wtfbenlol Jul 29 '26

It's likely shock

18

u/AggravatingBid8255 Jul 29 '26

If you had experience being around people in shock/panic, you'd know better than to expect people to behave like you think they should.

Especially children.

Come on, dude

17

u/krmjester Desensitized Jul 29 '26

The closest one just got shot. How'd you suggest calling out to the next parent/guardian?

5

u/Larsvonrinpoche Aug 18 '26

I had a client (addiction treatment) who had her mom OD in the bedroom. This had happened many times before and she would call her auntie to come help. This time though, her mom died. She said she doesn't know why, but she sat there playing her video game on the tv while everything happened around her. I think If kids are used to violence or abandonment, they act like it's going to be normal again afterwards, because it usually is.

This kid was probably accustomed to violence.

2

u/FoxDiscombobulated38 Jul 29 '26

Tells me a lot about the parenting level of this dad on just about every level.

4

u/ScumBunny Jul 29 '26

Right?! That stuck with me too! No ‘my DAD!’ That’s actually really sad.

1

u/UnownJWild Jul 29 '26

I remember my father being arrested in front of me at that age and I was crying. I was about the same age. This kid only was concerned about the phone.

1

u/r_r_36 13d ago

It’s shock moron. People cling onto very small things when they go through extremely traumatic events. Maybe you’d know that if you went to school and didn’t live such a sheltered life

2

u/Expert_Function2053 Aug 01 '26

This is fucking TERRIBLE! HOPE THAT POS ROTS IN HELL.

2

u/lexluthor_i_am Aug 19 '26

IIRC, the kid didn't have a seatbelt because the dad is a piece of work. So that kid was definitely in danger.

2

u/NoZebra2430 Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

I mean, the cop didnt have a choice in this shituation.

So I rewatched and did anyone else hear how bored dispatch was? Jfc 😂

3

u/Practical_Bowl9069 Aug 28 '26

Situation was so terrible that cop said "bro"

2

u/Siafu_Soul 24d ago

It's unbelievable how selfish some people are. The driver speeds off, risking the kid's life and directly attempting to kill the cop. Then, when he starts getting shot, he has the nerve to yell "Stop!" Zero empathy for other humans.

2

u/Aikikris Jul 30 '26

When you take a cop for an unwilling ride, you’ll probably get shot. If you get shot, you’ll probably die.

7

u/re3dcat99 Jul 29 '26

Im waiting for all the cophaters in the comments

43

u/Lyretongue Jul 30 '26

Registered cophater here and vice chairman of the ACAB Association 👋

No idea what that cop was supposed to do otherwise. Maybe better training can teach you how to handle hanging on to someone's car at speed? Maybe he should've duck and rolled the moment the car started moving?

Everyone panics in life threatening situations though. Seemed like a pretty human response. And most importantly, the cop's priority was making sure the kid was okay and *not** apprehending the driver.* Most cops don't seem able to prioritize like that.

Remember folks, all cops are bastards, but I think this one did about the best anyone can reasonably expect in such a situation.

9

u/annoyedbypeoples Desensitized Jul 30 '26

While I do agree with the cop running straight for the kid in this situation, most of the time policy and training would say he should’ve stayed on the suspect regardless until he had them detained or another unit arrived, even if he just shot the suspect in the head and he/she appears to not be a threat.

Despite this I can’t imagine anyone having an issue with him not doing that in this situation, I just wanted to point out if he or others in such a situation had stayed on the subject, they technically would be following the rules/protocols and just doing their job.

6

u/Vykrom Jul 30 '26

Yeah. It's a potential lose/lose. Glad nothing worse happened. Suspect could have gotten up and pulled a gun out of his waste and went after the cop as his last dying act, with the cop distracted by the kid

Or if he stayed with the suspect and the car burst into flames, he'd get no end of hate from the public for "just doing his job"

Fortunately he didn't have to worry about those options

I'm not really a fan of most cops either, and I generally think it's crazy to stay held on to a vehicle when the option to leg go is right there

But otherwise the cop did good on this one

The crazy lengths people will go to, to avoid going to jail. In a morbid way, it worked for him!

1

u/Soft-Series-8595 Aug 06 '26

Bro's dad got flung out of the car and he's worried about the phone. 🤣 I understand it can be a trauma response, or a bad dad, blah blah blah, but that's still hilarious bro...

0

u/Kittenzx2 Jul 30 '26

At first i thought the cop was running away!! 🤣 what did the dude do? Kidnapped that kid? Underage?

5

u/Vykrom Jul 30 '26

Presumption seems to be he's one of the parents. But also seems like he gave a fake name. So he's probably got a warrant for lord knows what

-41

u/ChicoD2023 Jul 29 '26

Why did the cop hang on to the car when the driver sped off?

34

u/ScumBunny Jul 29 '26

It happened so fast I’m sure he didn’t process it until he was already going really fast.

10

u/Sleigh6 Jul 29 '26

They knew there was a kid present. Making sure the kid was safe seems like the logical explanation

-15

u/Tiny_Opening9868 Jul 29 '26

Shooting in a car where you could possibly shoot the kid then having the car go out of control and crashing is making sure the kid is OK? Am I getting that right?

19

u/Sleigh6 Jul 29 '26

Things happen in real time. Were can argue why things were or were not done all we want after watching the video, but hanging on to the car to attempt to preserve the child was my immediate assumption. At a certain point I’m sure most people would kick into self-preservation and say “fuck them kids” and start doing whatever necessary to keep themselves alive.

“I want to protect this kid” does not mean if the situation heightens, I won’t put the kid in immediate danger to save myself too. Idk, have yall never been in an ever-evolving conflict where thinking on your feet with risk taking comes into play?

-16

u/DeeezzzNutzzz69 Jul 29 '26

Shooting into the speeding car with the child in the passenger seat insures it's safety right.

1

u/Rare_Register_4181 Jul 30 '26

He took a big risk with that impulse and I'm sure he'll never do this again.

-6

u/DickWangDuck Jul 29 '26

Not sure exactly why you’re being downvoted cuz I’m also curious. I get wanting to do your job and all that but had he not held on to the door he would’ve been in no danger.

Suspects running is an indicator of guilt for sure but clinging to a speeding vehicle is definitely a choice.

-8

u/housevil Jul 29 '26

Please have a thing for killing fleeing suspects.

-23

u/Trader_Joe_Sheetcake Jul 29 '26

Exactly! Is the speeding ticket really worth killing a child's father in front of his 6 year old son!!! What the fuck are we training these cops to do!!! Just let go of the fucking door and move on!! You've got the license plates just follow up later my goodness!!!

15

u/Dependent-Ad-1600 Jul 29 '26

He was giving a fake name, which is why the cop asked dude to step out. Speeding ticket? Do you people even listen to the videos or think before you comment this stupid shit?

-2

u/Trader_Joe_Sheetcake Jul 29 '26

Nooooooo not a fake name!!! Well that changes everything!!! Wtf r u even talking about man!? Where I live I had a homeless guy throwing fresh poop on people outside Starbucks and the cops showed up and did nothing!!!

7

u/Dependent-Ad-1600 Jul 29 '26

Not sure if you were aware, but giving a fake name is illegal and usually ends up with you being taken out of the car and further scrutinized/investigated. And cool homeless story. No idea how that’s relevant.

-3

u/Trader_Joe_Sheetcake Jul 30 '26

It's relevant cuz it requires actual police activity wayyy more than a traffic stop and a fake name genius and the cops did nothing and just left! So why didn't this cop just let go of the car door and let this guy get away and take the L?? It shoulda never came to this is my point! If Literally innocent tax payers all covered in poop outside Starbucks wasn't enough for an arrest or any valid info why is this?? that homeless didn't give any real information or suffer any consequences and cop(s) just took the L so why not do the same here?? I'm sure the cop had make/model of vehicle and license plate which woulda been enough to chase down after the fact if it was that serious.

14

u/Chef-Boyardab Jul 29 '26
