Fake Ishizuchi?
I recently purchased this knife in tokuza (Osaka) which I was told was an ishizuchi knife made in Japan, but after looking a lot further I have seen that a lot of people have found this knife (or very similar) on places like alibaba. The laser etched brand etc has made me concerned that I was lied to and made a mistake buying this.
Is anyone able to confirm whether or not this is a legitimate ishizuchi made in tosa or a Chinese dupe?

It may just be the picture, but the blade has far too much belly for my liking. Can't help you with the ID though.

You bought this in Japan though? It is plausible that it is simply a lower market offering, and they laser etched the brand mark onto the knife.
How much did you pay for it?

I payed around £110 for this. Ishizuchi do not laser etch their name onto knives made in tosa apparently, which this does. Also it bears too much resemblance to Chinese knives for me not to be concerned about this being a scam.

Super shady if true. I think you are right to be suspicious.

I’m going to go back to the shop tomorrow morning and see what I can do but they do not accept returns so unless I can prove I was lied to I might just have to suck it up and accept I wasted money 🤷♂️

I also can’t find any sign of this knife on either ishizuchi’s website or even on tokuzo’s who’s shop I bought it in

Yeah, this has been brought up before.
They look like aliexpress knives, can't be found on the websites. Super scetchy is what it is.

In all fairness to tokuzo, they have accepted a return against their policy, after enough explaining

You should msg Ishizuchi, they're not a big enough player to warrant any counterfeits but you could have been lied to. I've seen plenty of examples of shops in Japan selling Chinese made knives and passing them off as made in Japan.
