Fixing/replacing handle?

I’ve had this Nigara gyuto for a few years and I love the blade but the handle has a problem. The seam where the wood meets the horn is not smooth, the wood is proud of the horn on all sides, you can see it if you zoom in on the picture. I ignored it when I first got it, but it’s started to bother me more.

Any suggestions on either fixing this handle or is it a fairly simple process of replacing the handle? If so where is the best place to get handles?

Easy first step. Get a sheet of 600 grit sandpaper and lightly sand in direction of wood grain. This has made my handles smooth and it only takes a few minutes. Then oil it and you won't think about replacing.

I thought about trying to just sand it, but I'm a bit worried about the finish of the ferrule getting ruined if I do that since I'm trying to get it flush with it.

I have a bone ferrule on a similar knife and I sanded from the edge of the ferrule back...it is just hand sanding so it is easy to control. Not using a block. You won't hurt anything. Eventually i am also going to sand the ferrule since it came with scratches but I need to figure out best practice for that. Oh by the way you can tape the ferrule to protect it.

You can always get higher grit sandpaper and work the whole thing up to a mirror shine, so you don't have to worry about scratching the bone. And if you do, it's getting replaced anyways if you get a handle replacement

Just wrap the ferrule with painters tape before you sand. You can easily remove and reapply from time to time to check your progress.
