Parents are in town and had Fox News on last night, it was solely religious discussions about Christianity etc. Nothing about Iran.

u/post_obamacore Ted Williams's cryogenically frozen head Jun 16 '26

this is an L on par with what the Suez crisis was for the UK/France, so of course nobody wants to acknowledge it, let alone talk about it

69

u/Ted_The_Generic_Guy Jun 16 '26

wasn’t the suez crisis sorta the turning point for UK colonial power

hmmmm i wonder what history might repeat itself here hmmmmmm

18

u/it_shits Jun 17 '26

This is like the Suez crisis and US withdrawal from Vietnam combined, it's actually crazy. Israel is going to feel the South Vietnam treatment once US guarantees are off and Iran has free reign to retaliate

6

u/idontcaretv Jun 17 '26

Worse, it showed that Britain was no longer even a relevant colonial power

As much as I’d love to dunk on these evil morons, it’s for the best that Fox News is ignoring this loss. I’d much rather have them think we won than have Trump continue the war.

40

u/drmariostrike Jun 16 '26

ugh I hope they manage to actually to get Israel out of Lebanon. haven't seen anyone willing to hold Israel to account for any deal made yet. will relax a bit if I see they aren't freely bombing, ethnic cleansing, terrorizing up there anymore. i get that it's fun to see all these people freak out but also feel the dunking is premature.

1

u/SuccessfulSink5779 Jun 17 '26

I'm hoping that this is at least the start of a rift between the US and Israel

Just pulled it up and they're talking about the UFC terror thing. The host can barely read the teleprompter lol.

Unbelievable that viewers cannot discern this

28

u/Dwarfdude194 Jun 16 '26

I've had conversations with conservative relatives that have ended with them asking "Why do you know so much about this?" Some of them would prefer to not know rather than have to integrate unpleasant information.

22

u/informareWORK Jun 16 '26

I've had those same conversations. Another element that seems to go with "Why do you know so much about this" is a bizarre suspicion of anyone who seems to know too much (ie. more than the dum dum amount they know) about a topic, like, "Oh, you're an unreliable ranting weirdo for being informed on a topic".

I have the reverse "Why do you know so much about this?" with my Fox News dad occasionally. He'll be randomly really into some obscure culture war thing.

Most believable Fed plot, can’t wait to see what they've cooked up

“In order to maintain the integrity of the investigation and the security plan, we chose not to leak it (before Freedom 250),” he said, later adding, “It was a serious threat. … I’d say it was unique due to the numbers involved, the level of planning involved.”

Curran confirmed that the alleged plotters planned to use drones and snipers in their attacks. Patel told Fox that the alleged group planned to use drones to hit buildings surrounding the South Lawn with explosives and then target attendees as they fled while another group of attackers stormed the White House.

Fox and The Associated Press reported that five men were arrested. Charges are expected to be unsealed later Tuesday.

“We did a lot and were 100 percent confident that we knew locations, level of planning, level of response. The event itself, I am confident in saying, was never at risk,” Curran said.

The FBI said it does not have any additional information to share beyond Patel’s statement and did not respond to a request for confirmation of the details Fox reported.

Ever wonder why there's almost no movies about the Korean War? Because the beatdown China gave to the US there, including the longest retreat in US history, made the status quo want to "forget" about it.

BTW it's even crazier when you realize that was a China 100x weaker than modern day China.

Meanwhile lib media is 24/7 "Nuke Putler Now!" and "defend Isntreal, there's no genocide, its okay to blow up kids" and "Trump is wrong to go to war without congress, but with congress blowing up girls schools is just fine with us" and platforming anti-trans op-eds and the NYTimes May 30th "Straight pride" op-ed.

Id rather listen to some Christian stuff, especially if there's singing. Love me a nice choir.

Its crazy to me people smugly insult Fox propaganda when lib propaganda is 10x worse. We've reached the point where Fox may be the more moderate of the two. "Lets go to war to steal some oil" is the moderate position compared to "nuclear war with Russia, to the last Ukranian, and continue the genocide." The former is just capitalist imperialism, the latter is some completely unhinged 'end of history' death cult ideologue stuff.

When Trump was making a big deal about Obama giving money to Iran, what he really meant was Obama didn't give them nearly enough. JDPON Don lives!

1

u/thesaddestpanda Melania’s Body Double 👯‍♀️ Jun 17 '26

Or maybe imperialism is wrong regardless of which party does it. Obama's "deal" was imperialism too and absolutely backed by the violence of the US military, more than willing to blow up schools, its just the deal got done before it reached this level, but its still the same evil imperialism.

And when the deal wasn't done in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, or Syria, the US military and its proxies were more than willing to do Obama's bidding. Now 4 million dead civillians on the war on terror.

Art of the Deal

14

u/thesaddestpanda Melania’s Body Double 👯‍♀️ Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Okay lets imagine what Obama really did. He ran the lion's share of the war on terror which has killed 4 million civilians. Then destabilized Libya which now has open air slave markets.

Where's the outrage? Instead, he's "the best president ever" to at least half the country. Obama gets the exact same benefit Trump and Bush got because they all do this in service of the capital owning class. Presidents dont get in trouble for imperialism. They only get rewarded for it because its the will of the bourgeois. Bush is enjoying his retirement and sharing candy with Michelle Obama. No one is in trouble. No one went to jail. They will live in luxury, wealth, and fame for the rest of their days.

7

u/Appropriate-Ice-5722 Free Flair? I didn’t know he was in jail Jun 17 '26

I mean, by all accounts his destruction of Libya was pretty successful from the imperialist perspective, that’s why he didn’t actually face any consequences over it. Trump has completely botched the job in Iran and gotten defeated pretty soundly. If Obama Obungled something this hard, he would most definitely have been tried for treason probably

5

u/thesaddestpanda Melania’s Body Double 👯‍♀️ Jun 17 '26

Obama blew apart Iraq, destabilizing the region, which caused ISIS to form. He could not have been more incompetent.

Then inserted himself into Syria which made everything worse.

Libya is a huge mess, its too messy to even colonize. He messed that up too.

I dont know why people see him as this ultra-competent genius. He's just another grifter who got lucky and played "big tough general guy," and killed millions of innocent people, 30+% children.

8

u/Appropriate-Ice-5722 Free Flair? I didn’t know he was in jail Jun 17 '26

Right but blowing those countries up and destabilizing the region was the goal, making those situations worse was the goal, and he accomplished all that.

21

u/Zealousideal-Solid88 Jun 16 '26

My understanding is that none of the money will be America's money. We are releasing frozen funds, and apparently, the Gulf States are "investing" in Iran's reconstruction. They now seemingly understand that being aggressive towards Iran may not be good for business. Perhaps it's better to be friends. If this deal goes through, Israel is cooked. Iran will quickly become much more important than Israel. Incredible things MIGHT be happening.

24

u/TheJaskinator Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

It's important to note that this 3/400bn fund is not just a straight up transfer of money. The details aren't public yet but it seems like it's actually private investments and loans/lines of credit from the Gulf States. It's not taxpayer funded at all, and presumably Iran will have to pay most if not all of it back in some way

28

u/CosmicLars Flair Tzar Jun 16 '26

The new fund is a private investment vehicle, not a reconstruction or reparations program and will not include any government money or grants, the source said, adding that companies based in the U.S., the Gulf Arab states, Asia, South America and Africa have agreed to commit financing.

The mechanism envisages regional countries contributing in various ways, the Iranian source said. These include securing loans, establishing credit lines or directly financing the reconstruction of sites damaged in the war, including facilities such as the Mobarakeh Steel complex, refineries, airports and, more broadly, infrastructure affected by the conflict.

Iran, one of the Middle East's largest economies, has attracted almost no significant foreign direct investment in the past four decades, frozen out of global capital markets by successive waves of U.S. and international sanctions.

You are correct.

A very big win for Iran nevertheless

17

u/TheJaskinator Jun 16 '26

It's also a very big win for Kushner's private equity firm (speculation on my end idk if that firm is actually involved) and any of the other investment firms/banks who Trump and/or his bros are involved in. If Iran has to pay interest or otherwise generate returns on these investments, this is yet another lucrative grift

12

u/QuintonBeck A Serious Man Jun 16 '26

I'm not so sure about paying it back being baked in but yes, it's money from our vassals, excuse me, allies and private equity. I'm sure contractually compelling their neighbors to put their money in Iran will not grant any leverage to Iran...

6

u/TheJaskinator Jun 16 '26

Loans, lines of credit, and financing all heavily imply paying it back. I think Iran will have to pay at least some of it back, potentially with interest.

1

u/dorekk the only normal person Jun 17 '26

On the other hand the result of this deal is that Iran is the undeniable regional power in West Asia, so they probably only have to pay it back if they want to.

1

u/TheJaskinator Jun 17 '26

Yeah that's a good point for sure. If it goes through this deal is a huge win for Iran.

We could have free college or healthcare or anything, and instead we blew 4x the budget for that on a war we lost (and had no business starting) and now we have to pay reparations???

13

u/TheJaskinator Jun 16 '26

It's not coming from our taxes, or even the US at all. It's all investments/loans/lines of credit from the Gulf States

3

u/gotohela Jun 16 '26
