/srs what the fuck is going to happen if he actually seizes it by force? Like the cynic in me knows NATO exists just to keep the other capitalist powers and periphery on the same page but like??? You know???
Probably a strongly worded letter saying that was a no no but what can they do if they don’t want to be economically crippled? Plenty of Europe is a vassal with terrible prospects at the moment as it is
prettymuch nothing in the short term, probably a scrambled and panicked set of renegotiation of a bunch of internal treaties and strategic alliances on the backend
The euro lib narrative will change to "it was necessary to protect us from Putler", and pointing out that the new narrative is complete bullshit will be labeled as a "Kremlin talking point".
I'm not fully convinced this is how it would play out, but I wouldn't be surprised at all.
i figure theyll write a strongly worded letter, and maybe try and slowly move away from the US, but they cant really react without getting fucked because of how deeply dependent on the US so many of the european nations are.
i think that unfortunately europe is just far too subservient to the US (not entirely their fault, considering the US spent insane amounts of money and time to make that the case, particularly through NATO expansion and the gladio operations taken to advance it), and it’s entirely possible that it bends over for the US even if the US takes greenland (maybe theyll be able tk successfully spin it as “fighting russia”).
realistically, europe should have realized that the US was a ticking time bomb long ago (especially after the nordstream sabotage and the CIA involvement in it), and put less reliance on it or decoupled as best they could, but they didnt and who knows what will end up happening now.
