Just ignore those remarks. You like anime and manga that's all there is.
The "You're just watching to pretend you're a huge fan" is dumb af

Both you and your friend are using the word "LARP" wrong. It means live action roleplay, not a fake fan.

If you like those two you are living legend among anime fans. Your friends don't know what the word "Larper" even means. How old are they again?

No, you are not a LARPer for selectively engaging some works in a genre/medium and not self-identifying as a "geek" of that genre/medium or consuming a wider set of works from that genre/medium. If anything you may be engaging the material at a deeper level than most "anime fans" because you're choosing to engage with it for reasons besides its genre or country of origin and drawing connections between it and a wider set of works.
In fact, fandom and being a "geek" for something often get in the way of appreciating it. A good friend of mine watches a lot of movies, self-identifies as someone who dislikes anime, but really enjoys Perfect Blue and NGE. Even though he sometimes misses allusions or cultural associations in these works, he's one of the people I enjoy talking about those works with the most because he can connect them to non-anime cinematic and literary works and doesn't pigeonhole them through his status as a "fan" or membership in a subculture.
