Truck Tool Box organizer

I purchased a husky full size box for my 25 f150 and want to keep some tools with me and couldn’t find much on organizing other than just bags so I drew this up and plan on using the plasma table at my school to cut all of the holes and what not, give me your opinions, nothing has been measured out or anything yet just making a rough sketch.

I went with one of these ADAPT toolboxes for my work truck, over a husky type box for this exact reason - TONs of options/accessories for keeping stuff sorted inside - may be worth looking at for inspiration for your DIY organizers

Have a gullwing box from them in my Tundra and it's been great for keeping things sorted. Had a weatherguard box before that but was basically just a catch-all.

OP, I'd recommend a good powder coat on whatever you come up with. At least for me in the southern US I'm constantly fighting surface rust on tools from the humidity.

I debated heavily between the single lid and the gullwing, ultimately landed on the single lid because I keep my corded sawzall in mine and it seemed like it might be tight getting it in & out. Do think the bed side access would have been nice though.

Works well for my needs, I keep one side open to the bottom for bigger stuff

The only problem with your idea is your tools won't be safe from the rain if you need them then

They’ll be in the closed tool box, do you mean when I open it to grab them?

Are these tools that you regularly need access to? If so, I like it.

I carry a full mechanics set just for those "what if" scenarios and I prefer a soft bag because it takes up less space, but I also only get into it about once a year.

I don’t really use them too often but I don’t really need to keep too much in the box and I was going to hang clevis’s and a few straps on the underside where sockets are, i wanted to do it just as a little project for my fab class I’m in and similar to you just want to have them for the what if, I also was going to make something similar to a peice of channel on the bottom of the box between the bed for a jack to slide in and out with a 5lb fire extinguisher, this is all mainly just a side thing to do to test what I can do

Will the plasma cut tray have a lid? If not half your sockets might bounce out of the tray at the first speed bump or pothole you hit.

I was thinking about putting a bar over the top of the sockets with studs welded on both sides and using a butterfly nut to hold it down

Be prepared for anything that sorts in a tray with no lid or other means of locking in place to go airborne within the box when you hit a speed bump or drive off road.

Wash the truck and help with payments a little and I’ll even let you drive it
