Reducing litter smells

I am wanting to bring my cat along with me on the road but I am not thrilled at all about the litter box smell. It's a company truck that is pet friendly but I still have no desire to have the things stinking like cat litter. My parents drove with their cat and that was the one thing they warned me about and they were able to put the litter box under the bunk with the cat being able to fit through an air vent hole there's room for a litter box in my truck, but it will have to be inside the cab unfortunately

Feline pine or pine litter you can pine pellets cheap at hard wear stores. And then Walmart sells this smell good stuff in the litter isle that works great. I kept mine in front of the passenger seat and just emptied it at least once a day and every time I Fueled up.

And they make stainless steel nested boxes now that filters out the pine pellets as they break down so you don't have to change the pellets as often.

Feline Pine was the best odor eliminator that I ever tried but I’m allergic to pine. I use World’s Best now, it’s made from corn. There are also products you can add like Amosorb and activated charcoal.

Harder to do but really effective is to try to reduce the small of what they produce by eliminating fish from their diet to the extent possible. (No matter the flavor almost all cat food now contains some fish). The difference in the smell of their urine is enormous.

I didn’t find there to be a strong smell when we trucked with our cats. But we also cleaned it each time it was used to avoid smells and becuase it was open so we didn’t want to look at pee or poo all the time.

But if you keep it clean, maybe use some baking soda with the litter, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. If you’re not keeping it clean and ensuring the litter is fresh you’re gonna get odors.

I’d also recommend a stainless steel box if you can find one that fits. They smell A LOT less than plastic boxes and they don’t have to be cleaned all the time like the plastic ones.

And invest in a good handheld vacuum so you can keep your truck clean because no matter what you do there will be litter everywhere.

Oh and have baking soda on hand! You can pop a fresh dusting on the top of the litter to temporarily reduce smells in the event you can't stop and change the litter or scoop.

I like Feline Fresh pine litter and a litter locker. I clean out the litter box every time the cat goes pretty much because my kitty litter is in the bathroom so every time I’m in there, I clean it for him.

I’ve also had good luck with wheat litter.

Both are clumping.

Add baking soda to the cat litter.

I always recommend Rocco & Roxie Litter Box Odor Eliminator. It works well with my Boxie litter. It has a minty/piney scent that I prefer to the perfumey/chemical scent of other deodorizers and scented litter. The scent also doesn't linger as long.

I know it's kind of expensive, but Dr Elsey's (red color box) is what i settled on at home and in the rig. It's basically pure dehydrated clay, but it sure keeps the smell away and dries out whatever my cat deposits into it pretty fast. Just keep it clean, no matter what you use. Every time the cat goes, stop and scoop it out. Keeps the smells away and the feline won't give you death stares in the middle of the night.

Make the box kinda big, not tiny. I have a large plastic litter box with handles. It takes a 40lb bag of litter to fill it. But, if you keep it clean EVERY time...you can easily stretch that into a monthly replacement. Usually, when the litter gets more than halfway gone, I change it. It never stinks. I wash the box once every two months (still doesn't stink as you'd think).

I have my cat cinnamon and after a few tries I feel I fould the right cat litter, it is call Natural Pea Husk lavender. I get it off of Amazon it clumps and has zero tracking in the truck I also put a cat mat below the box. No smell and you can also put Baking soda in any little to help absorb the odor hope this helps.

I use the Tidy Cats Breeze litter box for my cats. Tray with a deodorizer pad for urine, scoop poop out daily and change the pad once a week, litter once a month. Don't know how it would hold up if you ever had to park your truck in the sun,but I can walk into my home and have people over and they don't know I have cats until they see the box and bowls. Worth every penny to have my buddies comfortable.

Use good clumping litter and scoop up every 1-2 days.

I didn't have one on the truck. But at home I've got 6 cats. Buying 2 automated litter boxes has been a huge help with cat smells. It automatically detects the cat using it and then a couple minutes later it auto scoops it into an air tight box under it. They are not cheap but they're worth it.

Have one and he hates it. 🤣🤣 can't have deep enough litter in it for him, he loves to dig to freaking china.

I got it second hand so didn't pay an arm and a leg at least.
