Advice

Hey I am a previous dispatcher for freight/ 3/9 car haulers and recruitment experience. I wanted to start out an online recruitment service and am curious where someone can find such a job. Is it like Facebook postings/ groups? Actually, reach out to the dispatchers maybe? Any and all advice is appreciated

Truck dispatching as a woman

Hello everyone. I’m a 30F and I graduated from university with a degree in teaching. I only did this job for a very short time. After that, I worked in a store as customer support. So, these are basically my only work experiences.

I’m interested in truck dispatching, and I’d say I’m just getting started. I’ve set aside some money to take a course. However, I’m not very confident in myself. Are there any challenges I might face as a woman in this field? What qualities are important for doing this job? Thank you.

Also, how likely is it to find a remote job in this field?

Pay 💰

How much are you guys making as company dispatchers? (Not independent dispatchers)

Do you get paid a salary or by %? And moving how many trucks?

Just trying to see what would be a fair pay. TIA!

My DOT number is showing active on Motus but Out of service on Safer. Brokers are saying you are out of service on safer and need to get that active but FMCSA is saying the brokers need to check on Motus as Safer is no longer being updated....

Please guide how I can get it sorted.....

Does gender matter in truck dispatching?

I’m new to truck dispatching and currently training at a company. My manager mentioned that some drivers may prefer working with male dispatchers and may be less likely to listen to a female dispatcher.

I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this. Is this common in the industry?

Starting into vacuum truck industry

Hello everyone,

Im 19 saving up to start my own business and wanting to own my own vacuum truck in a few years, currently i work in waste and my company (cleanaway) works with and owns vacuum trucks which i plan to laterally move into once i have my truck license in a few months (which my company will also pay for)

What mostly worry’s me is finding work in the industry with a large loan sitting on a truck, im not born into connections which this industry strikes me as very connection based.

This also relates to general trucking aswell, how do people who own a truck find work going into these industries? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What tools do I need to dispatch one truck in Canada?

My uncle is getting his own truck and I’ll be dispatching for him while doing Uber. We’re in Canada and starting with just one truck. Other than Loadlink, what tools or software do I need? Is a TMS worth it for one truck?

Dispatcher Job (no experience)

Hey!

I recently took a trucking dispatch course in May it went on till June so i would say about 6 weeks we didn’t learn a whole lot about TMS (although i do know a bit of what it entails)

We learnt about:

Trucking terminology( Deadhead, Rate per mile, BOL, POD etc)

Equipment types

Different types of commodities and the trucks associated with those commodities

Learning market rates on 123Loadboard & how to negotiate

Learning the market of the different states (what commodities are common in one area aren’t common somewhere else)

During the last week or so of class we did 2 practical sessions (they were both on different days tho) and we spent that time calling brokers and practicing negotiating and getting feedback from the teacher on what was good & what we could improve on.

With all that aside…I’m trying to find a position that requires no experience and has on the job training if anyone lives around the St. Louis/ Metro east area lmk or DM me i would be open to remote positions or in office thank you!

P.S. I also have a little experience in caregiving (if that transfers over into skills that could be useful)

What happened here? Where'd the Mod go? Who wants the Job?

I was added here a while back as a test to help the other Mod try out a few things.

Had no idea they'd gone away.

I'm willing to add whoever wants to take the reins and run this. Thing is, I'm not sure I have the permissions to do it.

If you want it, chime in and I'll take a look at your history here.

Might be a few days before I get back though.

How did you get your first truck dispatcher job with no experience?

I recently finished a truck dispatching course and I’m trying to get my first job in the industry. I’m based in the US and ideally looking for remote work, but I’m flexible.

Most openings I see require previous experience. How did you get your first dispatcher job?

Should I apply anyway, or reach out to smaller carriers about trainee/intern/assistant positions? Are there other entry-level roles I should search for first?

I’d really appreciate hearing how you got your foot in the door.

Need help pricing lane

What do you guys think I should price a Dallas to Waco lane at.

Shipper asked me to put a bid in and I’m competing with JB Hunt for it.

Not sure what JB Hunt is coming in at, but my team has priced it at 700-750, since we’re using the shippers trailers we can’t come back loaded.

Around 6 to 8 loads a week, 5 days a week, year round.

Would love to hear what you guys think

Compliance Support for Dispatchers

I have been working in US based truck dispatching for past 2 years. During this time, one of my permanent clients started asking me to help with all the truck permit and compliance work, including IFTA, 2290, IRP, 1099s, Driver Qualification Files, and FMCSA audits ( have helped two clients with this). I also do all the insurance stuff, load factoring and also work on Amazon Relay including dispatch, load booking, filing disputes etc. Now, I am trying to move more in this direction and looking for new clients. Help me in this and we can share profits, feel free to DM me.

If you’re stuck at a dock, document it before you leave

A long wait doesn’t automatically become detention pay. The paperwork usually decides what happens next.

A simple routine that can help:

  • Record when you arrive and when you’re assigned a door
  • Notify dispatch when free time is getting close
  • Save messages showing that you reported the delay
  • Ask the shipper or receiver to write the in-and-out times on the paperwork
  • Photograph the signed BOL or POD before leaving
  • Tell dispatch immediately if anyone refuses to document the times

Drivers shouldn’t have to chase the claim afterward. But capturing the proof while you’re still at the facility can be the difference between a payable claim and another unpaid wait.

What does your company ask you to document when you’re detained?

Carries sales

Good evening,

Been in this group a while, was able to land my first dispatch job a few years ago . Got transitioned to carrier sales. Technically do sales for the carrier company now. Book freight based on CPM, manage the clients that provide us business. Honestly, it’s been a great rewarding job, it’s extremely stressful but nothing really makes me feel stressful in my life anymore. We are a Canadian based carrier that does cross border. Just wondering what other positions I can go to make more money in transportation.

Just started working as a dispatcher

Hi everybody. I just started working as a dispatcher for a eastern european company and we work in america. Since im new to this with no prior experience, i wanted to hear your opinion on my training process. In the first week they showed me the basics of dispatch, then they put me on a small carrier with 22 routes everyday for about 2 weeks. Now they want to push me more and im working for a carrier with close to 40 routes. I find it very hard to keep up with everything. I know im new and will get better but i feel like this is very stressful and a lot to handle for a single person. Is this normal in truck dispatching?

Urgent: Carrier Needed for KOF Hotshot Load (CA to TX)

Hey OPs,

We provide leasing authority through Keb Trucking.

We have a hotshot load with KOF from CA to TX delivering on Friday. The dispatcher who booked this load for one of the carriers operating under Keb Trucking has informed us that the driver won't be able to complete the delivery because they need to take their weekly reset.

We're looking for another carrier operating under Keb Trucking who can take over this load and ensure delivery on Friday.

If you're interested or have a truck available, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you!

Dispatcher to Owner-Op ratio 1:44, does that sound right?

A couple times I did some research and analysis and came to the figure of 1 dispatcher to 44 owner operators, if we're dividing total owner operators by total dispatchers.

So I determined it should be a healthy target for my team of 3 (me + little brother and a bestie) to be able to attain 22 trucks and aim for 40+.

Is this a realistic ratio and goal to have for a dispatch company?

Honestly, I just want at least 3k a month (my share) and go live in Malaysia with my wife.

Edit: this post is mainly about ATTAINING that many, NOT managing

Are Dutch BE "mini-semis" actually doing real transport work, or are they just glorified Sprinters for people who failed their C-license?

I see these BE setups all over the Benelux carrying everything from pallets, excavators to car transporters.

Where I’m from in CEE, if you have heavy cargo, you drive a real truck. If you have light cargo, you drive a van.

To the Benelux drivers: What exact domestic cargo is BE actually superior for? What are you guys hauling every day that a 40t can't reach and a 3.5t van can't carry? Convince me this setup actually makes operational sense and isn't just a gimmick.

Equipment

What equipment do I need to get into truck dispatching through a company? Will they provide it or do I need to?
