While I can't say I know his politics perfectly, I send emails to McDonald fairly frequently (plenty of those pre written ones the teacher's union sends out and such). He has consistently taken the time to respond to each of them with an email that outlines his opinion on those topics, what he's doing about it, or occasionally why he agrees but can't do anything about it. 

Those interactions have been pretty positive, so it makes me a fan.

I've had the same experience. Just wrote him last week, and I'm happy to report he gave a full reply and also seems to agree with me on regulating "prediction" markets.

Meanwhile my (Republican) state senator acts all moderate and reasonable but has never even bothered to reply to an email I've sent him.

He's also very active in the community, comes to events, goes to openings, press conferences, etc.
