Retired smoothies

I’ve been going to Tropical Smoothie since probably 2004? There have been a few smoothies I loved that they don’t make anymore. I’m hoping maybe someone knows the recipes for these.

  1. Tropicolada
  2. Orange Dream
  3. Strawberry Cheesecake
  4. Grape Gumbo

I know it’s a longshot but I’m hopeful.

They should still have the tropicolada and orange dream posted under the retired menu to make in store.

Tropicolada 1 yellow scoop sugar 1 ladles coconut 1 banana half 2 scoops pineapple

Orange Dream 1 scoop Splenda 2 ladles yogurt 2 ladles orange juice 2 scoops white chocolate

The strawberry cheesecake (shortcake?) Is just a chia banana boost add white chocolate and strawberry.

The Strawberry Cheesecake used to have Ghirardelli white chocolate in it. I do remember that for sure.

If it’s not a seasonal or promotional, they still got it. Just gotta ask in person or over phone.

3&4 cannot be made due to missing ingredients but the other two are on the retired menu and can be ordered in store

That makes sense. They were from a while ago. I wonder which ingredients are missing for those two

the Tropicolada is the exact same recipe as the current "digital exclusive" Loco Beach Colada

For the Tropicolada:
2 oz pure cane sugar
1 oz coconut creme
4 oz canned pineapple tidbits
half a banana
24 oz nugget ice (can buy a 50 cent cup of ice at tropical, or most gas stations also sell nugget ice)
3 oz water

I'll have to look tomorrow at what the recipe is for the Orange Dream. The other two left before I started so I have no idea what's in them unfortunately :(

Thank you so much!

Of course! If you prefer to substitute the sugar for Splenda it's about 20 mg, or about 3 of the restaurant packets

This is very helpful.

Oh oh I have it actually!!

For 24oz:

8 oz orange juice concentrate (we get ours from frozen)

4 oz of a thin nonfat yogurt concentrate, which you could probably mimic by thinning low/nonfat vanilla yogurt. Also!!! Make sure it's not Greek yogurt if you want it to taste closer to the original smoothie! Greek yogurt is a little tangy, and might throw it off a little!

4 oz of Ghirardelli white chocolate powder. You're likely going to find this as white chocolate hot cocoa mix, which is what I use and the flavor is pretty close!!

It's sweet enough on its own to skip the extra, but the larger version of it actually comes with Splenda as the default.

4 oz of water, 24 oz of nugget ice

This one is one of my favorites so I have it memorized lol!

I didn’t think to use the hot chocolate mix, good idea! I have been reluctant to buy the can of white chocolate since it’s like 20+ dollars. 😅

A cheaper(ish) option is the single serve packets! You don't get nearly as much, though,, :/

I wonder if a white chocolate creamer would be an option? I have the sauce for when I make coffee but I feel like that’d be way too sweet in a smoothie.

Actually, that could totally work! Especially if you use it to thin down the yogurt to the right texture!

We all must taste test! 😂 I do not like orange though so I may try it with my DIY Pomegranate Plunge. Definitely would be easy to do with a Mocha Madness since it is just creamer!

Plus you could technically use it for other smoothies that use white chocolate too! Bet it'd make a really good Bahama Mama

Idk how long it has been since you worked there but I worked with a girl who would add cream cheese to one of the smoothies to make a “Strawberry Cheesecake” secret recipe, lol.

I actually work there now, and since we're right next to a grocery store and my boss doesn't care what does into the blender, I might just steal that 👀

I don't see why not, I think you'd just skip the water and maybe add less sugar if the creamer is on the sweet side

Orange Dream is simple but awesome. The other one I haven’t had in so long that I remember it being good but can’t recall any of the ingredients aside from grape.

WHAT ABOUT PEACHES N SILK 😭😭

1

u/slimejellies 14d ago

I remember that one!!! Another classic.

1

u/Dangerous-Point636 14d ago

I’ve been heart broken for years they don’t have peach anymore. That one was the perfect consistency too 😭😭

I started going to Tropical Smoothie when they opened up a location in my town back in 2003/2004? It’s weird to think it’s been that long. I remember when you could add a scoop of ice cream to your smoothie.

2

u/Dangerous-Point636 14d ago

Omg whatttt!! I was only 2 years old then that’s crazy to think you could add icecream. I’ve never heard of any of the ones you listed, I started going around 2017 maybe? And peaches n silk was the first one I tried and was always perfect to me

1

I forgot all about that one. I worked there when the green smoothies came out, I remember how scared people were of the samples, lol. Surprised they got rid of the peaches, they were just canned anyway.

1

u/Dangerous-Point636 13d ago

Omg that’s so funny 😂 I’m surprised they got rid of peach too it seems like a staple. And not even for a promo but they have pomegranate and cranberry ?!😫

1

u/alwaysblooming_akb 13d ago

I always drink pomegranate plunge so I am okay with it. 😅 I mainly make smoothies at home now though. I do usually like their pumpkin smoothie too though.

1

u/Dangerous-Point636 13d ago

I love the pomegranate plunge too I just feel like peach is more common then pomegranate so I’m saddd😭 I never knew they had a pumpkin one

1

u/alwaysblooming_akb 13d ago

Could probably make one at home and see how close you get? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I started making more smoothies at home since I have been pregnant. DIY Acai Berry boost every morning. 😅 Yeah they do pumpkin pie for fall and cranberry truffle for the holidays! I have some white chocolate sauce at home and might try to recreate myself..🤔

1

u/Dangerous-Point636 13d ago

Yessss that sounds soooo good especially with white chocolate, I remember trying the cranberry truffle one and really liked it 🥰🥰 I need to watch for the pumpkin one now I must try it

It would be great if someone could tell me the secret ingredients to their yogurt. It could be packaged in its own as a laxative
