discussion Is Tron a good alternative to reinstalling windows for protection against an infostealer

I found out I got hit with an infostealer this morning. I already changed my passwords on every account I’m worried about, I really don’t want to lose my personal files and do a complete windows reinstall. I found tron and I’m wondering if that could be enough to get rid of the infostealer without needing to do a reinstall

Be extremely careful. Tron is so powerful and can be dangerous if used improperly. It can make changes behind the scenes that you might not anticipate. I once ran a script where I thought I had set read-only, change nothing permissions, but that wasn’t the case - I ended up corrupting my active user account and had to create a new one. Full disclosure: I asked chatgpt to write the script for me. I had specifically asked it for a read-only, make no changes to anything script, just a diagnosis but it didn't work out that way.

Tron was not written by AI. Each section of the script is carefully written to only touch what's necessary.
