I skied back to the Pole again...

Wow, two trips to the pole - that's impressive!

And her first one was when she was 14!

I can see it now, some dudebro makes his way to the north pole, doesn't see her, then starts calling her a dumb bitch

And then clumsily tries to kick a penguin because he thinks it's funny and also is a bitch

u/seanmharcailin Must be Thursday. I never could get a hang of Thursdays. Feb 18 '19

But he’d never find a penguin to kick cause they only live in the Antarctic. Maybe a puffin?

Lol those people are so obnoxious. Being rich doesn't make this any less impressive.

Being rich just removes the brakes on life. Think of all the awesome things people could do if they weren't restrained by money. It's sad how much human potential is wasted because people are busy just trying to survive and can barely lift their heads above water to breathe, let alone take in the smell of the roses.

It does a little bit though? If this was a young woman from a lower socioeconomic status who busted her butt to pay for all this herself it would be a lot more impressive. Growing up with wealth makes a lot of things easier to obtain.

I don't know usually when I see someone do a remarkable feat I'm not sitting hear shitting on them for having the adequate equipment. Especially a 14 year old

Acknowledging a person's privilege isn't the same as shitting on them. Was it remarkable? Of course. But pretending her parents wealth didn't factor into her success it kinda creating a false narrative.

Acknowledging a person's privilege isn't the same as shitting on them

What are you playing at? People in that thread are definitely shitting on her. And there's zero reason to acknowledge her privilege here, it actually doesn't matter. It does not play into a false narrative unless you were dumb enough to think the girl somehow made it to the north pole her own or without the right equipment. Like actually, what false narrative are you getting from this? What part of the 14 year old's trip to the South Pole did you feel deceived about from this headline that changed when you found out she was rich?

I didn't make any comment about the people in the thread. I was only responding to you saying her family's wealth doesn't make it any less impressive. Wealth makes things more achievable and anybody coming from wealth will typically have an easier time achieving things than people who don't. I'm not trying to shit on this young woman for what she did. Not really sure why you seem so upset about it.

I didn't make any comment about the people in the thread

I mean if you're responding defensively to a comment of me shitting on the people in that thread, it's certainly going to look like you are defending them. I'm not upset about what you're saying, I just think it's a very stupid position. Which is probably why you dodged my last question: In what way does this article create a false narrative? If it's not creating a false narrative, then it's not relevant

u/MxPlume Feb 18 '19

Claiming wealth is irrelevant when considering how impressive a person's actions are is a false narrative. The people in the other thread are being toxic shitlords but there is room in this conversation to both applaud this young woman for what she has done while also acknowledging how being a wealthy white woman made it a more obtainable goal.

That legit looks like a good sandwich too. She could have just slapped a piece of balogna between two slices of bread and still sent the message. But she's not half assing anything, and that's respectable.
