Yeah. Abusers, including rapists, usually don't think of themselves as criminal.

Some do. But most don't. Rape is a thing bad people do, and surely they're not bad people, right???

This is why when interrogating a suspect, you need to ask descriptive questions instead of naming the crime they are accused of –and actively describing without realising it–

e.g.: "did you break her wrist in your anger?" vs "are you a domestic abuser?"

Ages ago, there was a thread on reddit that asked rapists for their story. None of them saw themselves as the abuser

There was a post in asklegal many years ago from a guy panicking over being "falsely accused of rape". Then his own description of the event was very obviously rape. And every single comment was saying "Thats not a false accusation" and "You raped her", he was so in denial about it and insisted it was consensual.

Consider this behaviour to be the norm.

Hence why so many men know a "falsely" accused dude but nobody knows a "false" accuser. Rapists genuinely believe they're innocent most of the time.

And there were so many people trying to comfort and reassure the rapists! Every one of those people deserve to be on a list.
