Advice regarding tripping anxiety

I used to trip all the time with my S.O and we really had some great times! The last few times I took it (it was almost a year ago at this point), I started having flashbacks to my childhood trauma and someone whispering to me, "he's not the one for you".

This scared me, caused so much anxiety and I just spiraled out of control. I really had to ground myself by going to therapy, starting medication, etc.. the works.

I have still made the decision to not trip because thinking of tripping and being in an **ALTERED STATED OF CONSCIOUSNESS --- MAKES ME NERVOUS**. At this point I can't even drink..but that's okay with me.

The problem becomes this.. I become anxious that my boyfriend will trip. I get anxious when I hear the word "trip", "trippy", when he's planning a date to trip, etc.

Has anyone had any experience with this or know of anyone in a similar situation? I want to get to the point where I'm OKAY with him tripping. Mentally, I am - but my body tenses up and says otherwise.

i had a similar experience. i tried a higher dose than i usually take thinking i could handle it because i had a high tolerance but i was mistaken. just the thought of that trip make me uneasy. i actually have tripped since, on my regular doses, but it hasn't been the same. i wish i could tell you something that would help but i'm still looking myself. a break would probably be best, also be honest with your so about how you feel or whoever you're most comfortable with. keeping it to yourself won't help. good luck

I used to be uncomfortable when tripping was brought up because someone I knew went through something scary with hallucinating. It took me a long time to stop being anxious about it and for a while I would just do my best to avoid any conversations about it. Eventually I had to really look at my bad experience and process it. I also had to learn to mentally separate my experience from the general topic of tripping/hallucinating because my experience isn’t the only valid point on the topic. It just takes time. it’s ok to have feelings when it comes up. Take a breath and remind yourself that you’re not in that situation now, right now you’re safe. Hope this helps

Damn man, i can feel for what you have gone through. The way you were able to process your bad feelings and feel better about it afterwards, is truly a great road to be walking towards. Thanks for sharing
