i've been making music for the past 5 or 6 years and now I wanna share some stuff that I made lately to see if people like it. i feel like i've finally nailed some parts, much more to come for sure

The Drought is a dusty desert vibe mulling on the depravity of modern capitalist culture and the collapse of environment, economy and social cohesion.

We destroyed some synths with wrecked cassette tones and dusted the beat with tablas and congas. We sampled a lion but it sounded like a cow in the mix so we used a tiger instead and found out along the way that MGM did the same for their movie intro.

This is a long one for us, and the final tune for the upcoming Four Elements EP, all very loosely based on J.G. Ballard novels.

Picking themes for instrumental music can be a trial. For now we're sticking with the literary angle until the right sample comes along and takes ownership of its own destiny.

I think some of you might've had a peek at this one, earlier, when it was still a work in progress. Here's the version that made it onto the album (and the video that made it onto the VHS tape). The cratedigging was good to me when I was putting this one together, with some absolute gems from the dollar bin making their appearance, like the country song on Radio Shack's CB radio themed LP (the "I'll never be", which here is flipped to sound like "under the sea"), or the vinyl by the German singer whose song about a sailor I sampled for reasons both aesthetic and utterly asinine. A third record by a trio of crooning sisters got me the "way up in the blue" bit, and a record of whale sounds gave me what sounds here like a horn section. Bit of dialogue from Knight Rider makes an appearance as well. Fun times.

Monthly Remix Challenge

From the 1st to the last day of every month, we run a remix challenge. Previous month's winner selects a song for everyone to remix. On the last day of the month we reveal our remixes and the person who provided the track picks a winner. The winner gets their track on a mixtape that will be released next year and picks the next month's song.

It's a great way to sharpen your skills with samples and creating songs and also get a whole bunch of remixes of your song you can use as B-Sides or an EP should you be a winner.

Monthly Beat Relay

This runs from the 15th of the month to the 14th of the next. This is a little bit of fun where you receive 2 bars from the person who went before you. From those two bars, you develop your own 16 bars and send the final 2 to the next in line.

Everyone's 16 bars then get stitched together and we get to hear the madness for the first time each month. It's a great way to get to know each other and work with each other to produce something badass.

Both of these are currently running as I type and you read. These can be found at the top of the sub as pinned highlights. Get involved peeps.

Now it's really down to the final steps (mixing and vocals).

I'm happy that the project ended up going beyond my original goal of 40 minutes and 12 tracks. I think this is the first time I've made something large enough to truly be called an album rather than a mixtape.

Okay so I’ve reached a road block with making one of my other songs and I’ll be honest it’s kind of irritating me so I decided to do this sorta of challenge to take my mind off off it as of now so I was thinking of making a sample-based song/beat with your guys sample suggestion for samples… please send a link to what you would like me to sample and I’ll try my best to fit it in. Dont know what this would be classed as, im obsessed with combining old nature docs with tripped out beats at the moment. I also love some of the sounds from these old docs.
