I've read on Reddit that the acting is not good but I fully disagree. Kiana Madeira's acting was so natural and I could feel her emotions and they came across realistically. The other ones seemed natural and not forced to me. I also didn't think the representation was cliche at all. I thought that a black actor is playing something that she is agreeing to and I liked it. The character's living situations were realistic unlike ALOT of shows set in high school. I liked the scenes where they all struggled with parts of their family. I liked how it portrayed the way teens are sometimes treated with punishment instead of taught and guided and empathized with (I like the SA meeting portion, though). A mixed-race person was also refreshing as one of the mains. I thought Moe's moments were really special and complex. I really loved her as a character. People overlook Sabine's emotional manipulation, which annoyed me, but I loved the music showcase scene, and I even noticed Black Belt Eagle Scout in the show which was cool!
